Matatag Curriculum
The Matatag Curriculum is the new curriculum introduced in the Philippines in 2023. Matatag means “strong” or “stable” in Filipino, reflecting the vision to strengthen the national education system. The curriculum is designed to improve the quality of learning by simplifying content and focusing on literacy and numeracy.
Araling Panlipunan (Social Studies)
The Junior High School level (Grade 7-Grade 10), the Araling Panlipunan (AP) subject focuses on key themes such as history, geography, economics, and contemporary issues, both in the Philippines and in the global context.
DLP, or a Detailed Lesson Plan, is indeed DETAILED. I was very surprised to see the sample lesson plan that I had to make. We had to predict the answers from the students in the student's activity section, which seems to be part of student-centered. Thankfully, I was greatly assisted by Ma'am Avelina as my tutor. I consulted DLP 3x with Ma'am Ave to prepare my final demo teaching. In addition, Allison and April, my two beloved buddies, also helped me to organize the DLP.
Ma'am Ave gave me a topic on Greek civilization for the final demo on November 20, 2024. Ma'am Ave lent me the 8th-grade Araling Panlipunan book for reference in making the DLP. However, I also used another source in making the DLP, namely https://human.libretexts.org/. In making learning media, I made PowerPoint slides using Canva—my lifesaver. I also plan to include videos about the wars that occurred during the Greek civilization.
I planned a 'Who am I' or 'Siapakah Aku' activity to motivate students to learn about Greek civilization. The purpose of the activity was to introduce Greek mythology about the gods and goddesses of the Ancient Greeks as an introduction to learning.
I had the concept of going back in time with The Anywhere Door. I prepared scenarios, such as taking students to the battlefield to watch the war and to the museum to see the works of Greek relics. Thanks to Doraemon for lending me the door hahaha
I also utilize web quizizz to provide evaluation to students.
