My great aunt Bessie Maria Roberts was born at Dedham on 26 January 1886. She remained at home for many years and cared for her father, Frank, in his final years at Mistley and then for her widowed mother, Polly. After Frank and Polly had both died, she married Arthur E. Bennett in the autumn of 1929, at the age of forty-three. They married at Hertford, I expect because that was the home of her eldest sister, Jessie.
Arthur Ernest Bennett (born 22 April 1883) was apparently the cousin of a next-door neighbour. He was at Worlingham, Suffolk in 1891 with his father William, an ag. lab.
In 1939 Bessie and Arthur were living on London Road, Pakefield, Lowestoft, Suffolk. Arthur must have worked on the railway as he was an ‘attendant steam travelling crane, LNER’.
Arthur died in 1963, aged eighty and Bessie died at Pakefield in 1972, aged eighty-six. They had no children.
