Henry Mason

(1803-77)

A Henry Mason of Brightlingsea was in business with Frederick Mason, until February 1834 when it was announced in the Essex Standard that the partnership was dissolved by mutual consent. It is not clear if he was one of Thomas Mason’s sons. If so, he is not mentioned in his father’s will of 1829.

It seems likely though as a Henry Mason, aged forty-eight and born at Dedham (thus born c.1803), is listed in the 1851 census. His father was at Dedham until 1816, when the family moved to Brightlingsea.

He was an unmarried servant living in St Osyth, Essex in 1851. In 1871 he was a groom (still unmarried) at a household in Military Road, Colchester. It looks like he died at Colchester, as a Henry Mason was interred at St Martin Cemetery in 1877 aged seventy-four.
