Music (rombajje’li): Music and musical instruments are used during poetry readings, some theater, and live shows. They typically consist of a set of percussionists, one person on a two string instrument called a sessbarombajje’li, and a horn section. Musicians are not professional, and music is not seen as a job. They’re most often volunteers who have music as a hobby.
Most players learn from experience, and from parents or friends.
Certain tendencies naturally developed. Percussionists love to play with rhythm- often with syncopation and what we would see as odd time signatures- and pure major and minor keys are rare. During readings, the percussion section has to match up with the poet, and this takes much practice.
Music is fun, light, and fast, hence the name “the jumping art”.
