An Overview of the Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Tinland

The Republic of Tinland plays an active role on the micronational stage, both in small and big ways. Since its independence in 2020, the Republic of Tinland has engaged in diplomatic efforts with other micronations, participated in intermicronational organizations and conferences, and maintains an open-door policy for future engagements. 

The Republic of Tinland maintains a foreign policy based on the fundamental principles of the macronational and micronational communities. These principles include friendly relations and cooperation between states, the rule of law, human rights, global peace and security, the pacific settlement of disputes, and equality amongst states.

The Republic of Tinland and the Intermicronational Community

Since its independence in 2020, the Republic of Tinland has been a member of multiple intermicronational organizations. Here is some information about the intermicronational organizations that the confederation is (or has) been a member of: 

The Economic Union of Micronational States (EUMS): The Economic Union of Micronational States (EUMS) was an intermicronational economic organization created by the Republic of Tinland and three other micronations in September 2020. The EUMS had a primary goal of strengthening relations between its member states through their economic policies and activities. However, after months of inactivity and a failed attempt at reforming the Organization, the Republic of Tinland withdrew from the EUMS in February 2021.

The Grand Unified Micronational (GUM): The Grand Unified Micronational (GUM) is one of the micronational community's largest and most influential organizations. The Republic of Tinland became an observer of the GUM on May 20, 2021. Then, it was granted provisional membership on September 17, 2021, and then full membership on October 31, 2021. In June 2022, Barauskis had served as Chair but soon resigned citing mental health and inability to discharge the duties of the office properly. In December 2023, Barauskis had once again been elected as Chair and served until July 2024, when his term expired. He had previously served as the Vice Chair until September 20, 2024.  Barauskis served as the Recruitment Secretary from January 11 to July 27, 2025. In the GUM, the Republic of Tinland has led multiple efforts to rebound the organization from a period of inactivity, namely the GUM Membership Development Program, the April 2024 24-hour Quorum event, and general reforms.

The York Entente (YE): The York Entente (YE) is a newer intermicronational organization focused on building friendly relations between member states and intermicronational cooperation. The Republic of Tinland became a founding member of the YE in October 2022. On February 5th, 2025, the National Assembly adopted a resolution withdrawing from the York Entente. Eleven days later, the Republic of Tinland officially withdrew from the Organization. 

The Assembly of Chicagoland Micronations: The Assembly of Chicagoland Micronations (ACM) is an intermicronational organization in the Chicagoland region in the United States. The Republic of Tinland became a member of the ACM on May 20, 2022. The Republic of Tinland has led an effort to formalize the Organization, including helping in the effort to draft a charter for the ACM.
