My work process starts by gathering pictures, screenshots and jotting down notes over a period of time. These are pictures and screenshots of the maps of places I frequently visit and places I use as getaways from my monotonous routine.I rarely begin my work by making final sketches of the artwork; most of the time, it is the outcome of the whole process. Instead, I start with transferring the saved images/sketches into different small key models. Then, I let the process lead by experimenting with different materials, primarily with cutting/pasting and carving wasli. Sometimes beginning of an artwork is as simple as constructing a line or a circle on the surface, or a study of shapes or negative space or transferring the whole map on the surface, or it is just an exercise to explore the medium's possibilities. The whole procedure also stimulates the conceptual aspect of the work. It is sometimes derived from the reference, the process or the similarities between the process, the act of creating art, and the work's reference. Those transferred images and key models then serve as an inspiration for the final work, and sometimes it becomes just a part of the process.
