The Journey Begins 

Can any human know the answers to the secrets of life? How does a person get that knowledge? Is there a class? If there was, wouldn't we all take it? I know I would have. But alas there is no such class. There are only two ways that anyone can understand this much about life. Either attend the college of hard knocks or have a guide who did just that. 

I was always the misfit. I spent my life trying to understand the how and why of every situation. I never could understand the 'norm' so I studied it. Why do people graduate high school, go to a job or to college, buy houses and cars and live their lives? How can someone be happy choosing one profession and working it all his or her life? How do people adhere to cultural standards or adapt to them if they are a transplant? What makes people tick? 

Some of the most perplexing ideas for me were the ones that everyone else deemed as normal. My mind challenged everything. Who wrote the textbooks and decided the standards that students should adhere to? Who decided what was status quo and what was inappropriate? Why do so many people seem to follow the same rules of life? Did I miss a memo? Did I miss the class? 

At first I looked in all of the wrong places. I was kicked out of high school and sent to an alternative high school because I loved to pull pranks. For example, tape recorders in the lockers screaming "Help me! I am stuck, get me out of here!" Conveniently set to go off mid-way through class. I was the one Saran wrapping the urinals and pulling fire alarms on days when we had a test that I had not studied for. Basically I was a terror. 

I was raised a Christian, but when I was a teenager I did not see enough evidence of God, so I switched to the other side and delved into occult. I did not find the answers that I was looking for there so I moved into New Age. Still I did not find my answers so I looked into Eastern Religions. I did not find my answers there either, so I continued to search. 

I have been a blue collar worker, a white collar worker, a business owner, a musician, an author, a mother, a student and a teacher. I have worked many different jobs and had many different circumstances. I have even been very poor and very rich. 

Yet it was always the same. It seemed to me that none of it made any sense at all. As if the world was under a blindfold and continued on without question, while I questioned everything. I never fit in and I never could understand why people stayed under a finite set of protocols. Most people did not challenge anything. Whatever the so called 'norm' was is how they lived their life. Those who did not follow that ‘norm’ seemed to be excluded or left behind. 

Everywhere I looked, people seemed very happy. Yet the deeper that I looked, the more I realized that was indeed not the case. Even the people that seemed 'normal' on the outside were under turmoil on the inside. The more I studied people, the more I realized that we are not so different after all. Although most people do not question the rules that govern daily life, all people are very much alike on the inside. This breakthrough happened after I spent time with a wide spectrum of people. From high end professionals, like doctors and lawyers, to blue collar workers, like laborers and shift workers. The closer I got to each of them personally, the clearer my realizations became. 

At first I used my knowledge in all of the wrong ways. I became a phone psychic. Sadly, I was extremely good. For the reason that I already knew the basics of human nature. Love, health and money were the key factors. When people called in to talk to me, I already knew it was about one of those three subjects. Within the first five minutes, the caller dropped me a few sentences to key me in as to which of the three we were dealing with. I felt this connection was a gift. The gift allowed me to read people. Then one day I woke up and to my dismay, I realized that if reading people was a gift, I could not be a part of a phone line that charged $2.99 per minute. These people stayed on with me for an hour and would often call back for another hour with me. At $180 an hour that was a total of $360. How could I charge for a gift? A gift is supposed to be free. So, I quit! I went on to counsel people for free. Eventually I became the person I am today. I spend a good three quarters of my time counseling teens and younger people. When you have been in as many circumstances as I have, there is not too much you cannot counsel on because there is not too much you have not personally seen or experienced. 

Through it all, my life began to take shape. Because I have questioned most everything, I have had to do the research. This means that I have a lot of trial and error under my belt. I know a lot of the answers to life and I try to use those answers to help others on their own journey. Anyone I have helped is farther down the road than I was and can build upon what they have learned, thereby giving the people that they help even more of the map. Back when I was first starting my journey, if I had been given the answers that are in this book, I would be ten times farther down the road than I am. My goal now is to help others with some shortcuts so that they can build upon what we discuss and can take it further than I could have ever gone. 

Are my answers the only answers? No, you should build upon the things that I will share with you. In all aspects of life, people have built on what was before, refined it and made it even better. There is nothing new under the sun, it is only refined. If you have to start from scratch, the road is long and tedious. If you already have half of the map and can build upon what you already know, you have the opportunity to do great things. My goal with this book is to give you a foundation of who you are and to remove problems that hinder your growth. From there, I hope that you take this knowledge and go on to do incredible things. 

I have been writing this book for over fifteen years. The book has been rewritten many times as I refined myself. To be honest I am not done. Refining yourself is a life-long process. I will probably write the book again in ten more years and add more information. However, the book does no one any good sitting on a shelf. Thus I will share what I know and later, after I have learned more, I will share more. 

The best way to help you to progress is to show you how to remove the mindsets that we all share which hinder our abilities of seeing the universal scale of life. The greatest gift you will ever give to yourself is an open mind. To be so open that you are able to set your own opinions and mindsets aside long enough to see things for what they really are, not in a worldly sense but on a universal scale, is key to all change. If you back an open mind with faith, you will be invincible. The bible states in Luke 17:6 "If you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mulberry tree,' May you be uprooted and thrown into the sea,' and it will obey you." Matthew 17:20 says: "Jesus replied, "Truly I tell you, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, 'Move from here to there,' and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you." 

In our world, we have been taught that life revolves around a set of protocols. We live under limitations, just as we have been taught to do by our parents, who were taught to do the same. Some of these protocols are important, like driving on the correct side of the road for your country. Some of these limitations are a hindrance. In our society, faith is considered an ignorance or weakness. Many people think that if you have faith you are passive and not addressing the problems. Yet, the bible clearly states that faith is a key factor. If you keep the limitations that society has placed upon the use of faith, you are hindering yourself. As it is with our other limitations, they will hinder your progression. As we progress through this book, we will see which programs to remove so that we can live fulfilled lives.
