Hello everyone,
The first edition of The Nighthawk Times is finally here, I'll be editing the paper this year with Kate Hartman. We have an amazing new team of writers, so make sure to tune in so you don't miss anything. One of the biggest changes we have implemented this year is the new website. We are hoping this change provides a more user-friendly interface, but please let us know what you think, our contact info is at the bottom of the website. Enjoy reading, and click the images to learn more about the upcoming events.

Hello wonderful readers!
I am so honored and thrilled to be editing the Nighthawk Times alongside Enrico Moss this year. We have so many incredible writers participating in the paper and we cannot wait for you to see what they have been working on. Since there are two Editors-in Chief this year, we have a lot more ideas and a lot more ability to make them reality so keep your eyes peeled for some new features! It's gonna be a great year.
Until next time,
Kate Hartman

Hello Nighthawks! It's that time of year again: Homecoming! It's been a busy 6 days with spirit week, the fight or flight game, the pep rally, the homecoming football game, and best of all, the homecoming dance! As some readers may know, I've written a homecoming article every year since I started at the Nighthawk Times. Instead of just recapping this year, I thought I'd make it a little more interesting by getting feedback from the student body! To do this, I sent a survey out through our newspaper’s Instagram account (@thenighthawktimes) and read through all the responses to get a general consensus and average star rating of each event.

This month, HOSA and Vitalant held a blood drive at Northfield! As a person who donated, I thought I'd share my experience and create a dos and don’ts list. Hopefully, this will give some clarity on how the blood drive works and help you as a reader decide if you would want to donate in the spring or in the future!

Last Friday, the Northfield Nighthawks beat the South Ravens 10-3 in a defensive battle in front of an enthusiastic homecoming crowd. It was a game where neither offense scored a touchdown, and both defenses dominated. The lone touchdown of the game came off a pick six by Nighthawks’ senior linebacker Oliver Michalec in the second quarter. Northfield’s defense kept South’s offense quiet all night. They held the Ravens to under 200 yards of total offense and only 35 rushing yards.

This is usually a sports column, but this month, we want to focus on something that supports sports and recreation in a different way. The Vibrant Denver Bond is a set of projects to improve Denver’s infrastructure over the next six years, helping people across the city. This bond will renovate and create new recreation centers, libraries and parks. It will also improve transportation, safety and housing. Two projects that will affect the area near Northfield are improvements to the Montbello Library and Rec Center. Projects like these will affect everyone in Denver, including students at Northfield. This spring, I volunteered to serve on one of five subcommittees, composed of community members and city council representatives, that evaluated potential projects for the Vibrant Denver Bond. My subcommittee focused on recreation centers, libraries, and housing. We reviewed projects proposed by the City Council and the public and sorted them into three tiers of importance. Then, we submitted our recommendations to an executive committee that determined the projects that would go in the final bond. For the final bond to go into action, Denver voters need to approve it this November.

With homecoming next week, many people are stressing about what to wear. While everyone wants to make a statement about their style, there will always be common trends. Social media, dress stores, and what’s been trending this past year has allowed us to predict what they’ll be.

The new Clipse album, Let God Sort Em’ Out, has drawn a lot of attention recently, being called the best comeback album of all time. Clipse, the Virginia Beach rap duo and brothers, is made up of Pusha T and Malice. Clipse was a prolific name in the rap scene throughout the late 90s and early 2000s, often rapping about selling coke, pioneering a genre of rap aptly called “coke rap”. This style of rap placed a large emphasis on the luxurious lifestyles that were built on violence.
