As a college student, I plan to acquire a paid internship in my area of interest over the first three summers of my college career. Internships are an important to me because I consider them a learning experience. Before my first internship, I had never worked a single 8-hour day in my life. The first two weeks were incredibly difficult, as I realized what my parents had already been going though for years. Eventually, I found myself able to work out a new schedule for myself that included eight hours of work, a time slot for exercise/tennis, leisure activities, and even scheduling well enough for eight hours of sleep every night.
Going into my first internship, I was a bit apprehensive. I was worried that even though I was doing well in school, it would not translate into real world applications. I was worried that I would be the intern always asking questions and not getting much work done due to lack of understanding. These fears were put out as soon as I started working. I realized that because I was an intern, my job was to learn, and therefore, I was allowed to ask as many questions as I wanted. As for the work load, it turns out that I am better at figuring things out through research and asking questions than I originally thought I was.
Internships have made me more confident in my abilities, and have further confirmed my desire to pursue my current career path. The projects I work on are listed by company at the top of this page. Enjoy!
