I went to high school in a small suburb of Milwaukee, WI called New Berlin. There were only two middle/high schools in the school district: New Berlin West and New Berlin Eisenhower. I attended the former for five and a half years and the latter for the other half of a year. I only took a few technology classes: Gateway to Technology I and II in middle school, Web Design A and B online in my underclassmen years, and a few Project Lead the Way (PLTW) courses in my upperclassmen years. Additionally, I took the AP Computer Science A (APCS) exam twice, failing the first time (tenth grade) and passing the second time (eleventh grade) before deciding on my college major.
My major involvement in technology in high school was through FIRST Robotics. New Berlin Blitz (Team 5148) formed when I was a sophomore, a team comprised of high school students from both schools in the district. I joined when I became a junior in order to learn practical applications of software in order to retake the APCS exam. The two years I spent on the team pushed me to make my decision to pursue a STEM field in college. I met some amazing people, and I learned a lot about myself and my ability to code and to lead.
