PLAN III - That's Life
Track Review: Plan III – “That’s Life”
After roaring back from a staggering 23-year hiatus, Detroit hardcore veterans Plan III have proved that time hasn't softened their edges one bit. Their latest offering, “That’s Life”—tracked and mixed by the legendary Detroit rock ’n’ roll rapscallion Jim Diamond—is a relentless, sub-two-minute masterclass in old-school hardcore punk.
From the opening seconds, "That's Life" uncoils with an explosive, high-octane energy. Johnny Bourbon’s distinctive, snarling vocals pierce right through the wall of fuzzed-out guitars, delivering an anthemic, fast-and-screaming critique of modern power structures. The rhythm section hits like a sledgehammer, capturing the raw, chaotic, and spontaneous urgency of a live basement show.
Diamond’s engineering perfectly preserves the band's gritty DIY roots while ensuring the mix retains a massive, punchy sonic weight. It’s loud, fast, and entirely unapologetic—serving as a fantastic first single from their upcoming full-length record on Proud House Records. Plan III isn't looking to reinvent the wheel; they are here to smash it to pieces.
