If you are looking for a track that delivers pure, unadulterated adrenaline, look no further than "Wayne Gretsky Was Right" by Mexican skatepunk outfit MIDDLENAME. Available on Bandcamp, this song is a relentless, high-speed ride that captures the absolute best elements of fast, melodic punk rock without ever losing its razor-sharp edge.

The Sound and Atmosphere

"Wayne Gretsky Was Right" is a spectacular burst of skatepunk energy. Named after the hockey legend's famous philosophy—you miss 100% of the shots you don't take—the song plays exactly like that: aggressive, fearless, and running at maximum velocity from the very first second.

• The Lightning-Fast Rhythm: The drumming on this track is exceptional. It drives forward with a classic, high-speed punk beat that feels like a runaway train. The bass guitar locks in beautifully with the rhythm, providing a thick, punchy foundation that keeps the song grounded even at breakneck speeds.

• The Melodic Guitar Chaos: Instead of just a blurry wall of noise, MIDDLENAME brings incredibly sharp, bright guitar hooks to the table. The riffs are lightning-fast and highly melodic, cutting through the music with a crisp edge that immediately makes you want to move.

• Passionate Vocals: The vocal delivery is packed with pure passion and urgency. It strikes a great balance between raw punk grit and infectious melody, ensuring that the high-stakes emotion of the track is front and centre.

Production & Presentation Highlights

What makes this digital single land so well on Bandcamp is how vibrant and alive it sounds. The track has an explosive sense of space. From the moment the first chord rings out, the music expands into a wide, powerful field that completely surrounds you. The high frequencies—like the crashing cymbals and the bite of the guitar strings—are bright and crisp without ever feeling harsh or tiring to your ears.

The Verdict

"Wayne Gretsky Was Right" is an absolute triumph for MIDDLENAME. They have delivered a single that is emotionally heavy, technically tight, and ridiculously catchy. It is a textbook example of how to make international punk rock sound massive, exciting, and completely undeniable.
