Track Review: "If Not Now" by None Shall Sleep

Hey everyone, Jason here. Today I’m diving into "If Not Now," the latest track from None Shall Sleep. If you’ve been following my page or submitting to my Spotify playlist, you know I live and breathe heavy music. As an audio engineer who mixes and masters punk and metal all day, I’m always listening to tracks through a specific lens—looking for that perfect balance of raw energy and sonic clarity.
Let's break down what None Shall Sleep is bringing to the table with this release.
Right from the first second, "If Not Now" hits you straight in the chest. The opening drum roll on the snare and riff has this immediate, driving urgency that instantly sets the mood. It doesn't waste any time winding up; it just grabs you by the collar. Sonically, the guitar tones are dialed in beautifully for this style—there’s enough grit and bite to satisfy any metalhead, but it retains enough definition that you can actually hear the chord shapes and note transitions, which is a massive win in my book.
The rhythm section holds things down like a concrete anchor. The bass has a really nice, prominent growl in the low-mids that locks in perfectly with the kick drum. Speaking of the drums, the performance here is incredibly tight. The snare has a solid, punchy crack that cuts cleanly through the wall of guitars without sounding thin or overly triggered.
Vocally, the performance is a standout. There is a genuine sense of desperation and passion in the delivery that fits the title "If Not Now" perfectly—it sounds like a band with something vital to say, and they aren't holding back. The vocal production sits nicely in the pocket of the mix; it's right upfront where it needs to be to deliver that emotional punch, but it leaves plenty of room for the instrumentation to breathe.
If I’m looking at this from a pure arrangement standpoint, the dynamic shifts are spot on. The song builds tension in all the right places and delivers a massive payoff when the choruses hit. It has that anthemic, replayable quality that makes you want to immediately spin it again the moment the final note fades out.
A note from the band .. "We are a 4 piece punk band from the NYC area influenced by personal grief and disappointment with the state of our society. With 2 front men sharing lead vocals, and collaborative song writing we create a textured mix of songs that sound different yet belong together. "
The Verdict:
"If Not Now" is a fierce, tightly executed track that shows None Shall Sleep firing on all cylinders. It’s got the aggression, the hooks, and the sonic punch needed to stand out in today's heavy scene. Definite addition to the playlist rotation. Go give it a loud spin!
