Memorable Childhood Memory
During her high school years, Eunice recalls an unforgettable trip to the beach with her friends for a school field trip. These Korean field trips typically spanned 2 to 3 days, and Eunice and her friends made the most of their time. They stayed up late, and sometimes pulled all-nighters, bonding over heartfelt conversations and creating cherished memories. As high school students focused on their future plans, college, and career aspirations, they discussed their dreams and what they wanted to become. These moments not only solidified their friendships but also continue to be a lasting connection with these friends to this day.
Childhood Dreams
In her younger years, Eunice's childhood dream was to become a teacher. Her admiration stemmed from a kind and supportive elementary school teacher who felt like a protector, always there to lend a helping hand. Eunice looked up to this teacher and aspired to follow in her footsteps. Later, when her mother fell seriously ill, her determination shifted, and she set her sights on becoming a nurse. Her desire was to provide care to many people, engage in volunteer work, and contribute to their well-being and happiness.
Shifting Perspectives on Happiness
Eunice's concept of happiness evolved over the years. As a child, happiness meant spending quality time with her family. Trips to various places, including the zoo, where they marveled at the animals, brought her immense joy and excitement. As she grew older, happiness shifted towards her friendships. While she still cherished time with her family, her friends from church and school played a significant role in her life, offering moments of happiness. Together, they engaged in neighborhood hangouts, church events, and volunteered in the children's ministry. Now, in adulthood and as a mother, happiness is defined by seeing her children get married, establish families of their own, achieve their life goals with minimal conflicts, and maintain their religious beliefs by staying connected with their faith.
Immigration Journey
Around the age of 30, Eunice immigrated to America due to her job's relocation. Initially planning to stay for only three years, she found herself extending her stay indefinitely. Despite missing her parents, she sought solace by frequently visiting the beach, listening to the soothing ocean waves, and finding peace in her heart. Although she initially considered returning to Korea after three years, her life took a different path.
