It is an honour and privilege to present to you the first edition of the departmental e-magazine
The Kanchan Review of the Department of English, Tezpur University. This magazine is a
potpourri of different genres – poetry, fiction, essays, visual narratives, book reviews,
interviews – a kaleidoscope of articles which attempts to gather the creative and dynamic
energy of the students into one space, and let it resonate with the readers. From poems
eulogizing the beauty of this planet and the whimsicality of time, to fiction which enshrine
the emotional core of the writers, from interviews with young artists keeping alive an
indigenous tradition to book reviews of debut novelists, this first edition of the e-magazine is
at once an intimate and expansive expression of the textures of life. I extend my heartfelt
gratitude to the team behind the magazine for their diligence, cooperation, and teamwork in
making this possible. A special thanks goes to the contributors, both students and alumni of
the department, for their enthusiasm in penning their creative pieces. In an age dominated by
AI, I hope that literature will inspire our readers to be good listeners, to question, to engage in
critical appreciation, to consider the ambiguity of things, to critique and also to reimagine and
reflect. Through an active engagement with the voices in the e-magazine, I am optimistic that
the readers will be inspired to rethink ideas about how we see the world.
