July 31, 2025 - Several earthquakes occurred in California today - The largest was a magnitude 4.3 earthquake near Fontana in San Bernardino County which was felt across Southern California. This quake struck at 9:32 a.m. local time (Pacific time) at a depth of 3.3 miles. It was preceded by smaller quakes in the same area (Fontana/Rialto) - a magnitude 3.0 at 8:34 a.m. and a magnitude 2.8 eight minutes later. Following the 4.3 magnitude earthquake, a 3.1 magnitude temblor shook the Rialto area.

April 14, 2025 - 5.2-magnitude earthquake strikes San Diego area, jolting Southern California near San Andreas system fault - A 5.2-magnitude earthquake struck near San Diego at 10:08 a.m. Monday, according to the U.S. Geological Survey. The quake's epicenter was recorded 2.49 miles south of Julian, in San Diego County. According to the USGS map, the quake was felt widely across Southern California and into Mexico. Initial reports indicated the earthquake was 6.7. Source 

April 4, 2025 - Texas rocked by swarm of four earthquakes in less than six hours - Texas has experienced four earthquakes since 2:30am ET. The seismic activity hit in the western part of the state, with the latest at 7:58am ET. The US Geological Survey (USGS) shows the quakes range from 2.6 magnitude to 2.8 magnitude. The agency detected three near Toyah and one south of Van Horn. Seismic activity above 2.5 in magnitude can often be felt and cause minor damage. However, no damages or injuries have been reported following Friday's earthquakes. While West Texas has several fault lines, the earthquakes were likely caused by induced seismicity—earthquakes triggered by human activities, particularly oil and gas operations. Those operations cause quakes mainly through wastewater injection, which increases underground pressure and lubricates faults, making them more likely to slip. Source

March 9, 2025 - California rocked by 4 earthquakes - Southern California neighborhoods were struck by four earthquakes on Sunday afternoon. Residents of Westlake Village and Malibu in Los Angeles county felt the jolt of earthquakes ranging from 2.5 magnitude to 4.1, according to the US Geological Survey (USGS) earthquake tracker. The first - and strongest - earthquake rocked West Village from 11 kilometers away just after 1 pm. Shortly after that, earthquakes of 2.5, 2.8 and 3.0 intensities struck within 13 kilometers of Malibu. The most powerful shaking was felt in portions of Malibu, Agoura Hills, Camarillo and Thousand Oaks, according to the USGS. Other places including downtown Los Angeles, Long Beach, Oxnard, Ventura, the San Clarita Valley, the San Gabriel Valley and the Simi Valley may have also mildly felt the natural disasters' impact. 'I’ve never felt the ground shake heavily beneath my feet until now, pretty wild,' one man living in the area wrote on X. According to the Modified Mercalli Intensity Scale that ranks how powerful earthquakes are, even the strongest 4.1 magnitude quake is considered 'light.'  At this level, it is normal for people inside to feel a small shake, for dishes to rattle and for walls to creak, the scale explains. This unusual cluster of temblors, primarily centered along the infamous San Andreas fault and the Foothills fault system near Death Valley, has reignited concerns among residents and experts about the state’s vulnerability to a long-overdue major quake. While no significant damage or injuries were reported, the flurry of activity has drawn attention from major news outlets, underscoring California’s precarious position atop some of the world’s most active fault lines. February 12, 2025 - Lincoln, Nebraska- Area 51 has been rocked by serious of earthquakes as seismic activity around mysterious testing site ramps up - A series of earthquakes have struck near the secretive Area 51 military testing base outside Las Vegas. The U.S. Geological Survey recorded a 2.8-magnitude tremor near the highly classified site in Nevada, long associated with rumors of alien research. The quake occurred east of Amargosa Valley, close to the infamous U.S. Air Force facility known for UFO-related conspiracy theories. It remains unclear if the minor tremor caused any damage to the base, which spans roughly 11 miles and requires top-level clearance for entry. Nevada experiences frequent seismic activity, with tens of thousands of micro-tremors each year, according to ShakeOut. People in the area believe the military testing base may be conducting secret projects or other unknown activities that could be causing the earthquakes. Source 

January 27, 2025 - A 4.1-magnitude earthquake hits off the U.S. East Coast reports of moderate to light tremors - An earthquake measuring 4.1 on the Richter scale struck parts of the East Coast, affecting areas in Massachusetts, New Hampshire, and Maine. Dozens of residents reported feeling light to moderate tremors. Despite the noticeable shaking, no structural damage to buildings or infrastructure has been reported. Authorities have also confirmed that no tsunami warning has been issued, as the earthquake's characteristics do not pose a risk of triggering a tsunami. Source 

January 1, 2025 - A 4.7 earthquake struck near Lake County, California 15 miles south of Clear Lake, at 6:34 p.m. Wednesday. Tremors were felt in San Francisco and the Bay Area. No tsunami danger reported.

• 9/4/2024: State of emergency declared in California as land movement threatens power lines - California Gov. Gavin Newsom declared a state of emergency Tuesday in the city of Rancho Palos Verdes as a severe land shift in the area is threatening the community and disrupting power lines. Emergency officials will be able to direct state resources toward responding to the threat of the land movement, the governor’s proclamation said. More than 200 homes in the city, around 30 miles south of Los Angeles, had their power cut Monday as a long-running ground shift close to them is threatening utility lines. Officials say the land there has been shifting slowly for decades, but the problem is worse than it used to be. “The movement has accelerated dramatically over the last 12 months, where some areas are moving up to 10 inches a week,” said City Council member David Bradley. “You can almost see the ground move.” “Yes, this landslide has been moving for decades, but the acceleration that’s happening currently is beyond what any of us could have foretold, and it demands more response from the state, more response from the federal government,” Hahn said. 8/12/2024: Los Angeles, California 4.4 Earthquake - struck a heavily populated section of Los Angeles County on Monday, shaking buildings and leaving residents rattled throughout the region. Quake felt from LA to San Diego, swaying buildings and knocking items off shelves but no big damage. It originally registered as a 4.7 magnitude earthquake, but was shortly downgraded.

7/11/2024: Back-to-Back earthquakes have just struck in the Pacific Ocean (6.6M & 6.4M), at the dangerous Cascadia Subduction Zone (CSZ) off the U.S. West Coast at the Canada Border.  The first quake, a Magnitude 6.6, struck at 11:08:32sec AM eastern US time (8:08 AM local time) at a shallow depth of 11km.  It was immediately followed by another quake measuring Magnitude 6.4 at 11:08:47sec. The United States Geological Survey has reported BOTH as separate quakes, but has alternated their reporting - now showing only ONE (1) quake, M 6.4. The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center says there is NO TSUNAMI DANGER. To have such a strong earthquake in this particular area is a very dangerous event.  The Cascadia Subduction Zone is literally the-most-dangerous active earthquake zone on earth.   It is where "the BIG ONE" will begin, on the US West Coast. August 31, 2025 - A 6.0 magnitude earthquake struck northeastern Afghanistan near the border with Pakistan, killing more than 1,400 people and injuring thousands. Key details of the disaster include:

• • • High casualties: According to the Taliban administration, at least 1,411 people have been killed, with the vast majority in Kunar province. The final death toll is expected to rise as rescue efforts continue in remote mountainous areas.

    • Shallow depth, extensive damage: The earthquake's epicenter was at a shallow depth of 8 km, which created major surface damage, including landslides and flattened villages. Many of the mud-brick and wood homes in the area are not earthquake-resistant, which contributed to the high number of casualties.

    • Challenging rescue efforts: The rugged, mountainous terrain has made it extremely difficult for rescuers to reach affected areas. Landslides have cut off roads, with many rescue teams having to proceed on foot to reach remote villages.

    • Humanitarian crisis: The earthquake strikes a country already facing a severe humanitarian crisis. Afghanistan is suffering from years of drought, endemic poverty, and a recent influx of returnees from Pakistan and Iran.

August 10, 2025 - 6.1 Magnitude Earthquake struck the Balıkesir province in northwestern Turkey - The quake had its epicenter in the town of Sindirgi. The earthquake was felt across multiple provinces, including Istanbul, which is over 120 miles away. The tremor caused at least a dozen buildings to collapse and led to the death of one person, an 81-year-old individual, who was rescued from rubble but died shortly after. Rescuers successfully saved five other people from the same collapsed building. A total of 29 individuals were wounded, though none are in life-threatening condition. In addition to the building collapses, the earthquake also caused two mosque minarets to tumble down in the village of Golcuk. Turkish authorities have initiated inspections across Istanbul and nearby provinces, but there are no signs of additional serious damage or casualties. The earthquake struck at a depth of 11 kilometers (6.8 miles).

July 29, 2025: A powerful magnitude 8.8 earthquake struck off the east coast of Kamchatka, Russia on Tuesday, July 29, 2025, prompting tsunami warnings and watches for various Pacific regions. A tsunami watch was issued for Hawaii. The National Tsunami Warning Center is still investigating the potential tsunami threat to American Samoa. The earliest potential impacts to American Samoa would be around 9:39 PM SST.

• March 28, 2025 - A 7.7 earthquake has hit Myanmar near the city of Mandalay. Shaking from the Myanmar earthquake has been felt in Bangkok, Thailand, as well as in other cities and countries. The 7.7 Myanmar earthquake struck around 10 miles from the city of Mandalay, which has a population of roughly 1.2 million people. Source

February 5, 2025 - 200 earthquakes in four days, Greek residents describe difficultly leaving 'Instagram island' More than 200 earthquakes have shook the Greek island of Santorini, also known as “Instagram island,” over the span of just four days. Many residents have chosen to evacuate, but despite efforts from multiple airlines to add more flights off the island, locals said it can be difficult to leave. The Greek island of Santorini is being rattled by dozens of tremors, prompting authorities to close schools and airlines to announce additional flights on Monday to help people leave the popular tourist destination. Over the past four days, more than 200 earthquakes have been recorded between Santorini and Amorgos in the Aegean Sea, with the strongest reaching a magnitude of 4.9. Tremors, some with a magnitude above 4, continued to rattle Santorini on Monday. Although these quakes are considered minor or light, authorities have closed schools on Santorini, as well as on Amorgos, Ios and Anafi, and advised residents to avoid large indoor gatherings. After an emergency meeting Monday, Greek authorities announced that schools on the four islands will remain closed until Friday. “We are dealing with a very intense geological phenomenon. I want to ask the islanders to remain calm,” Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis told reporters in Brussels on Monday, on the sidelines of a meeting of European Union leaders. In an update, Vassilis Karastathis, director at the Institute of Geodynamics at the National Observatory of Athens, told Greek media on Monday that “the seismic activity continues regularly with the same intensity.” Source

11/10/2024: 6.8 magnitude earthquake shakes Cuba after hurricanes and blackouts - A 6.8 magnitude earthquake shook eastern Cuba on Sunday, after weeks of hurricanes and blackouts that have left many on the island reeling. The epicenter of the quake was located approximately 25 miles (40 km) south of Bartolomé Masó, Cuba, according to a report by the United States Geological Survey. The rumbling was felt across the eastern stretch of Cuba, including in bigger cities like Santiago de Cuba. There were no immediate reports of damage or injuries. Residents in Santiago, Cuba’s second largest city, were left shaken on Sunday. Yolanda Tabío, 76, said people in the city flocked to the streets and were still nervously sitting in their doorways. She said she felt at least two aftershocks following the quake, but that among friends and family she hadn’t heard of any damages. On Wednesday, Category 3 Hurricane Rafael ripped through western Cuba, with strong winds knocking out power island-wide, destroying hundreds of homes and forcing evacuations of hundreds of thousands of people. Days after, much of the island was still struggling without power. Weeks before in October, the island was also hit by a one-two punch. First, it was hit by island-wide blackouts stretching on for days, a product of the island’s energy crisis. Shortly after, it was slapped by a powerful hurricane that struck the eastern part of the island and killed at least six people. 10/16/2024: Earthquake damages buildings in eastern Turkey, rattles Syria - A magnitude-5.9 earthquake struck eastern Turkey's Malatya province on Wednesday, causing damage to some buildings but no casualties, the country's disaster and emergency management authority (AFAD) said. Three buildings partially collapsed but there were no casualties, Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya told reporters. The quake was also felt in Syria's Hasakah, Deir al-Zor and Aleppo provinces, the country's state news agency said. Nearly 190 people were treated in hospitals in six provinces due to the quake, of which 43 remain under observation, Yerlikaya said. The European Mediterranean Seismological Centre said the quake had a 6.1 magnitude and was at a depth of 9 km (5.6 miles) below the earth. Source

6/28/2024: 7.2 Earthquake Hit Southern Peru - Powerful 7.2 magnitude earthquake hits southern Peru, no risk of tsunami - At least eight people have been injured after a powerful 7.2 magnitude earthquake struck off the coast of southern Peru overnight Friday at a depth of 28 kilometers (17 miles), according to the United States Geological Survey (USGC). The quake hit 8 kilometers (5 miles) west of Atiquipa, about 600 kilometers (372 miles) south of the capital Lima.
