Last season was the first one in FYC where I used WAR as my primary metric for evaluating the HOF candidates, and we ended up electing three very worthy candidates. This season, I am going to use the same process that I did last year: taking a look at the top five vote getters from last season who fell short of election, and if they're all worthy then they are the five who will get my votes. As a reminder, here are the results from last season's voting:
Based on the above results, the top five who failed to get elected last season were Hee Lee (14 votes), Chico Guerrero (13 votes), George Bland (12 votes), Cliff Zobrist (10 votes) and Matty Ibarra (2 votes.) Here is how those five stack up:
Cliff Zobrist, DH
106.76 Career WAR, "I Should Have Been In Years Ago"
George Bland, C
77.87 Career WAR, "I'll Get In Eventually"
Hee Lee, SP
Estimated 74 Career WAR, "I'll Get In Eventually"
Chico Guerrero, SP
Estimated 73 Career WAR, "I'll Get In Eventually"
Matty Ibarra, SP
Estimated 69 Career WAR, "I Might Get In"
The first four guys definitely get my votes, but Ibarra doesn't quite cross the threshold so I still have one more vote to use. As it turns out Akinori Suzuki, the leader in WAR during what I have called the "Update Era" which spans S34-now and represents all the seasons that have been played since that last major HBD update is up for election, so he gets my final vote. Below you will find a list of all the guys who have been named on the World Chat as having received votes so far:
Wladimir Blasco, LF
87.79 Career WAR, "I'll Get In Eventually"
Alex Komatsu, RF
105.75 Career WAR, "I Should Have Been In Years Ago"
Boone Oliver, 2B
84.04 Career WAR, "I'll Get In Eventually"
Akinori Suzuki, LF
116.68 Career WAR, "I Should Have Been In Years Ago"
Based on those results, my ballot is going to change significantly. Now I've got: Suzuki, Komatsu, Zobrist, Blasco and Oliver.
