The Student Cooperative Organization (SCO) was established in 1990 with the mission of providing affordable, community-oriented housing for Ohio University students. Its beginnings trace back to a single house known as ACME, later renamed The Vine, which served as SCO’s home for 25 years. In 2015, the organization expanded by purchasing a second property, the Firehouse on N Lancaster Street. Together, these two residences have since offered cooperative living to hundreds of Ohio University students and Athens community members. Grounded in values of mutual support and democratic living, SCO remains deeply committed to developing community-based solutions for affordable housing in Athens County and beyond.
The Vine co-op has been part of SCO for over 35 years. Located on Elliott Street, The Vine can house up to 8 members at a time, sporting 3 bathrooms and 3 kitchens.
