The President of the SCO Board provides leadership, coordination, and oversight of the cooperative’s governance processes. Key responsibilities include drafting agendas for both Board and All-SCO meetings in collaboration with other board members, ensuring meetings are organized, inclusive, and productive. The President facilitates all Board meetings and ensures that decision-making aligns with SCO’s cooperative values and democratic processes.
Additionally, the President oversees the development of new policies and amendments. They are responsible for dividing writing responsibilities among board members, while also contributing significantly to drafting when needed. The President plays a central role in setting the tone of collaboration and transparency for SCO’s governance structure.
The Maintenance Director is responsible for coordinating all house repairs, maintenance tasks, and remodeling projects. This includes identifying maintenance needs, communicating with house members, obtaining multiple contractor estimates, and overseeing the completion of repairs. The director ensures that both urgent and routine issues are addressed in a timely and cost-effective manner.
For repairs exceeding $500, the Maintenance Director must secure at least three estimates and submit them—along with a recommendation—to NASCO for approval. Once authorization is granted, the director will coordinate scheduling with the selected contractor. When possible, they may choose to handle small repairs themselves or delegate tasks to capable house members.
The Maintenance Director must be organized, communicative, and proactive in maintaining the safety and functionality of the houses.
Each House President serves as the primary representative of their respective house within the larger SCO cooperative. Their responsibilities include managing the application and leasing process, corresponding with new and potential members, and representing house concerns to the SCO Board. House Presidents also play an important role in recruitment by promoting vacancies through flyers, ads, social media, open houses, and other outreach strategies.
Additionally, the House President is responsible for updating the online vacancy listing and helping create a welcoming and inclusive house environment. This role is best suited for someone outgoing, organized, and enthusiastic about community-building.
The NASCO Properties Representative serves as the liaison between SCO and NASCO Properties (NP). They are responsible for maintaining consistent communication with NP staff via email, phone, and video calls, and representing SCO at NP Board meetings.
These national board meetings occur three times per year (spring, summer, and fall) and typically span a weekend. Attendees include representatives from cooperatives across the country, NP staff, and other board members. During these meetings, representatives share updates, discuss organizational policy, review budgets, and contribute to long-term planning for NASCO Properties.

The Secretary is responsible for maintaining organized and accessible records for the cooperative. This includes taking detailed minutes during All-SCO and Board meetings, uploading those minutes to the shared drive, and ensuring accurate documentation of decisions and action items.
Additional responsibilities include updating the shared calendar, scheduling All-SCO meetings, sending meeting reminders via Discord, and facilitating general communication between leadership and members. The Secretary plays a key administrative role in supporting transparency, coordination, and information-sharing throughout the co-op.
The Treasurer oversees SCO’s financial operations and bookkeeping. Core responsibilities include collecting monthly rent payments, making the lease payment to NASCO, managing the co-op’s budget, and tracking expenditures. The Treasurer must also balance the checkbook monthly and deliver a financial update to housemates at least once per month, highlighting spending trends and suggesting potential budgetary adjustments.
Punctuality, attention to detail, and strong math or accounting skills are essential for this role. The Treasurer plays a critical part in maintaining the financial health and sustainability of the cooperative.
