Because I am, and have been, an admirer of a certain now-extinct species, the particulars of which shall, or shall not, be disclosed at some point, it happens to be of some interest to me, as a human who hardly shies away from the likes of "gallows-humor"-type scenarios, that a certain someone else---namely, your Tasmanian Devil, or Harris's Flesh-Eater---actually benefited, in a sense, from the untimely demise of the ol' species I mentioned admiring about 19 minutes ago. When the Thylacine "joined the choir" as a species, in 1936, Sarcophilus harrisii then occupied the coveted position of being *The* Largest Carnivorous Marsupial in, oh, the entire World. Still the Largest ever to exist, however, would be your Marsupial Lion, which, despite the oft-heard phrase "Wolf-sized Marsupial Lion", was about as big as a damn tiger! In my opinion, this could be considered excessive, size-wise, for a carnivorous marsupial.
