BARTIMOS: Pray forgive my bluntness, Your Grace, but talk of men is moot. Your cause owns a power that has not been seen in this world since the days of old Valyria. Dragons!
RHAENYRA: The Greens have dragons as well.
DAEMON: They have three adults, by my count. We have Syrax, Caraxes, and Meleys. Your sons have Vermax, Arrax, and Tyraxes. Baela has Moondancer.
RHAENYRA: Daemon, none of our dragons have been to war.
DAEMON: There are also unclaimed dragons. Seasmoke still resides on Driftmark. Vermithor and Silverwing dwell on the Dragonmont, still riderless. Then there are the three wild dragons, all of whom nest here.
RHAENYRA: And who is to ride them?
DAEMON: Dragonstone has 13 to their 4. I also have a score of eggs incubating in the Dragonmont.
- House of the Dragon Season 1 Episode 10 "The Black Queen"
RHAENA: You misled me, my lady.
JEYNE: I did what?
RHAENA: There is a large dragon in the Vale.
JEYNE: Rumor of it began shortly after the war. Ranging more broadly for food, my maesters surmise. It is large, and formidable, but alas, wild.
RHAENA: Alas.
- House of the Dragon Season 2 Episode 6 "Smallfolk"
I started this concept in season 1 working with @miguelsapochnik and ryancondal and we wanted elements of this design to reflect a bit of an alligator since he’s a feral wild dragon that eats sheep….
and for the wings I wanted them to look a bit asymmetrical and knuckly….I had found a picture of a dead bat that had this look and I was inspired to add this to sheepstealer overall silhouette to stand out a bit different from all the other dragons but staying still in the family design language….
later on Season 2 we revisited this concept and mixed in a head design from @kirillbarybin for the final look

And behind the mountain dwelled three wild dragons, never claimed nor ridden by any man, living or dead. The smallfolk had named them Sheepstealer, Grey Ghost, and the Cannibal.
- Fire and Blood "The Dying of the Dragons: The Blacks and the Greens"
A man called Silver Denys, whose hair and eyes lent credence to his claim to be descended from a bastard son of Maegor the Cruel, had an arm torn off by Sheepstealer. As his sons struggled to staunch the wound, the Cannibal descended on them, drove off Sheepstealer, and devoured father and sons alike.
- Fire and Blood "The Dying of the Dragons: The Red Dragon and the Gold"
Dragonstone’s three wild dragons were less easily claimed than those that had known previous riders, yet attempts were made upon them all the same. Sheepstealer, a notably ugly “mud brown” dragon hatched when the Old King was still young, had a taste for mutton, swooping down on shepherd’s flocks from Driftmark to the Wendwater. He seldom harmed the shepherds, unless they attempted to interfere with him, but had been known to devour the occasional sheep dog.
- Fire and Blood "The Dying of the Dragons: The Red Dragon and the Gold"
Sheepstealer proved easier to flush out, but he remained a vicious, ill-tempered beast, who killed more seeds than the three castle dragons together.
- Fire and Blood "The Dying of the Dragons: The Red Dragon and the Gold"
Many of the other seeds and seekers who aspired to ride upon Sheepstealer’s back ended in Sheepstealer’s belly instead.
