LAENA: You have a harder road. Baela's dragon was born to her. But if you wish to be a rider, you must claim that right.
- House of the Dragon Season 1 Episode 6 "The Princess and the Queen"
BARTIMOS: Pray forgive my bluntness, Your Grace, but talk of men is moot. Your cause owns a power that has not been seen in this world since the days of old Valyria. Dragons!
RHAENYRA: The Greens have dragons as well.
DAEMON: They have three adults, by my count. We have Syrax, Caraxes, and Meleys. Your sons have Vermax, Arrax, and Tyraxes. Baela has Moondancer.
RHAENYRA: Daemon, none of our dragons have been to war.
DAEMON: There are also unclaimed dragons. Seasmoke still resides on Driftmark. Vermithor and Silverwing dwell on the Dragonmont, still riderless. Then there are the three wild dragons, all of whom nest here.
RHAENYRA: And who is to ride them?
DAEMON: Dragonstone has 13 to their 4. I also have a score of eggs incubating in the Dragonmont.

Moondancer, a young and nimble dragon, bonded with Baela Targaryen from birth. - https://www.hbo.com/house-of-the-dragon/dragon-index#moondancer
Moondancer, the dragon belonging to Daemon's headstrong daughter, Baela, presented the artists with an ideal opportunity to break the mold—although the dragon has relatively little in the way of screen time, glimpsed only in some of the series' later episodes.
"Moondancer is the rock star of the bunch," Sekeris says of the creature, which has pale green scales and a pearlescent crest, horns, and wing bones.
“She's the punk rocker. She has more of a Mohawk, and she has a vibrant green color palette with an intricate pattern design on her skin.”
- Game of Thrones: House of the Dragon: Inside the Creation of a Targaryen Dynasty
Moondancer is a brand new dragon, so the description that I gave to the designers was simply David Bowie and we ended up with this like tiger striped green punk rocker with a mohawk and I'm thrilled with the outcome of it
For example, Moondancer was designed to be “kind of a punk, kind of reckless, aggressive,” with snappier and more twitchy movements that reflected her fiery temperament.

The contrast between Silverwing’s controlled elegance and Moondancer’s aggressive energy was carefully crafted to highlight the differences in their characters, making each dragon distinct and memorable.

Moondancer displays a more aggressive and “punk-like” attitude, which was especially apparent during the chase sequence in Episode 3

“It was demanding in terms of capturing a feeling of speed and intensity”, he says.
“The scene starts with Moondancer moving at 150 miles per hour, which is around an average speed for a dragon in the context of that world. But we see him suddenly break into a sharp dive, at which point his movement increases to 200 miles per hour. For us to create a way of visualising that movement speed, especially with the footage of an amazing real-life actor alongside it, took an enormous amount of detail”

MOONDANCER : Baela’s saddle was briefed as – designed for a confident dragon rider, we riffed from the characters riding costume for some consistency.
Developing the black layered scales on the buck nose into the buck neck mail and scale armour, as with all the designs I worked heavily from nature using biomimicry as a key design theme – Mondancer’s in particular was influenced heavily by the forms of beetles like the Pray Mantis and species of Trilobite beetle.
Coupled with heavy inspiration from ancient Chinese armour and Samurai helmets, the saddle takes on a slick organic feel webbed to Moondancer’s back.
Prince Daemon’s twins by Laena Velaryon might yet be dragonriders too. Baela’s dragon, the slender pale green Moondancer, would soon be large enough to bear the girl upon her back…and though her sister Rhaena’s egg had hatched a broken thing that died within hours of emerging from the egg.
- Fire and Blood "The Dying of the Dragons: The Blacks and the Greens"
Lady Rhaena’s twin, Baela, remained on Dragonstone. Long betrothed to Prince Jacaerys, she refused to leave him, insisting that she would fight beside him on her own dragon…though Moondancer was too small to bear her weight.

Mushroom was less certain. “Three is more than one,” the dwarf claims to have told the Prince of Dragonstone, “but four is more than three, and six is more than four, even a fool knows that.” When Jace pointed out that Stormcloud had never been ridden, that Moondancer was but a hatchling, that Tyraxes was far away in the Vale with Prince Joffrey, and demanded to know where Mushroom proposed to find more dragons, the dwarf tells us he laughed and said, “Under the sheets and in the woodpiles, wherever you Targaryens spilled your silver seed.”
- Fire and Blood "The Dying of the Dragons: The Red Dragon and the Gold"
Even more than boys, however, Lady Baela loved to fly. Since first riding her dragon Moondancer into the sky not half a year past, she had flown every day, ranging freely to every part of Dragonstone and even across the sea to Driftmark.
