Elyse Reznik and Maddie Gross developed the Compost Commitment in January of 2024 as a way to help students bring composting programs to schools all around Los Angeles.
Hi my name is Elyse! I have been an activist in Los Angeles since 2017. I began my journey in the gun violence prevention movement after the Las Vegas Mass shooting, and expanded my social activism reach into topics such as women’s rights and climate change. I have volunteered with multiple campaigns, lobbied in both Sacramento and Washington D.C., and volunteered with organizations such as Team Enough and Students Demand Action. I recently completed interning with Assemblywoman Pilar Schiavo, and currently serve as both the Treasurer for the Saugus Students Demand Action Chapter and the Social Action Vice President on my temple youth board. I am excited to be working as a fellow with Kol Koleinu to learn more about, and help address, the issues affecting our communities.
Hi, I'm Maddie, and I'm a member of Temple Isaiah in West Los Angeles! I am so grateful to be a part of Kol Koleinu as it connects me to my Jewish identity. I have participated in my temple's Moving Traditions Rosh Hodesh group and am part of the Rishonim Fellowship Program, assisting with the religious school teachers and their classrooms. In addition, I was a Diller Teen Fellow which is a leadership development and social action program for Jewish teens actively engaged in improving the future of their communities. I began by activism regarding climate change in middle school, where I participated in an environmental organization, WE Club, and have continued expanding it at my high school.
