·      Backpack or small drawstring bag (We do a lot of projects, so the bag is super helpful when taking home creations.)

·      Sunscreen (NO SPRAY, MOUSSE, OR DYES, MUST BE 30 SPF or higher).

·      1 set of nap bedding, one stuffy to cuddle, and 2 set of extra clothes

All classroom activities are based on weekly themed topics. This year your child will learn to broaden their horizons through adventures through Literacy, Math, Science, Art, Self-Help skills, Social Studies, and Sensory activities. We teach through a cross curricular approach. We be integrating the same topic into all different learning areas is a more successful way for your child to learn, obtain, and apply knowledge they have been taught. Our Learning Centers will contain subject matter that will coincide with our learning theme. We are a Christian school and believe it is important for your child to have a relationship with God. Christian Education is taught weekly from a Christian curriculum. We use a conscious discipline approach to guide behaviors to help children through problem-solving and social/emotional struggles. We will teach children how to self-regulate, work through social issues, and communicate their emotions. Handwriting without Tears is our writing curriculum to build fine motor skills and precursor writing movements for success!

Literature-We will read multiple books daily that relate to our weekly theme. Reading to children is very important for a child’s potential writing skill and increases their vocabulary capacity. They become better thinkers and writers. We discuss the basic elements of a book: the title, author, illustrator, the spine of the book, whether the book is fiction or nonfiction, who the main character is. Your child will be able to catch onto our “book vocabulary” by the end of the summer.

Phonics-We will teach phonics during different small group conversations and subjects, such as literature and handwriting. We talk about different letter sounds, words, and how they are used to make sentences in writing. The more exposure to letter sounds, the higher chance children will have grasping and understanding handwriting.

Handwriting-“Handwriting Without Tears” will be used to teach lessons and phonics. Strengthening the children’s fine motor skills will be our focus before beginning to write.

Math-Math is taught weekly. We begin with learning the numbers 1 and go up to 20. The children learn how to write their numbers along with how to apply numbers with graphs and basic data collections.

Science-Topics will vary between plant and animal life cycles; agriculture/farming; sink/float; animal habitats, liquids vs. solids; and living and non-living things. This unit will be as hands-on as possible.

Social Studies-Teaching Social Studies will be related to the children’s everyday world for better understanding of what builds a community based on the theme; children will use their imaginations while reading books and playing in our theme-based dramatic play areas.

Christian Education- From the Frolic Bible and curriculum, a Bible story and corresponding activities will be taught weekly. We also pray before meals and snack. We also attend chapel over in the church once a week. VBS also enriches the children’s knowledge and acceptance of Jesus’ love for us.

Physical Education-Focuses on gross motor skills, while teaching cooperation, team building skills, and social/emotional regulation.

The PA Leaning Standards for Early Childhood Education will be our guidelines to set goals for the children.

Our learning this summer will incorporate all centers linked to a theme that may cover two weeks depending on the children’s interests and involvement in the activities.

Transition times can be difficult for children at this age. We do have strategies in place to ease the anxiety during transition times. We sing songs, play hand and counting games, play I Spy, and say chants during transitions. We have a class countdown to transitions to ease anxieties.
