September has arrived, and Colorado is already giving us plenty of reasons to get out of the house! 🍎🍂 From balloons filling the sky and end-of-summer festivals to live music, hands-on activities, markets, animals, art and a few early tastes of fall, this week is PACKED.

We did the searching so you don't have to and rounded up 20 family-friendly events happening September 2–9, 2026. Whether you're looking for something FREE, planning a full-day adventure, sneaking in a homeschool outing or just need an answer to “What are we doing this weekend?”, there's something here for your crew.

1. 🎈 Labor Day Lift Off | Sept. 5–7 | Morning launches begin around 7 AM, plus evening activities | Memorial Park, Colorado Springs | FREE general admission. This is the giant one: hot-air balloons, entertainment, activities and those gorgeous early-morning launches.

2. 🎨 Commonwheel Art Festival | Sept. 5–7 | Sat–Sun 10 AM–5 PM | Memorial Park, Manitou Springs | Art, live music, prize drawings and activities for kids.

3. 🎡 Colorado State Fair | Through Sept. 7 | Colorado State Fairgrounds, Pueblo | The final week of the fair gives us rides, animals, fair food, exhibits and entertainment. Special events continue through Labor Day.

4. ⚾ Vintage Baseball Game | Sept. 7 at 10 AM | Rock Ledge Ranch, Colorado Springs | Step back into the 1880s for old-fashioned baseball with period costumes and historic flair. This one is delightfully different.

5. 🐶 Pups in the Pool | Sept. 7, 9–11 AM or Noon–2 PM | City Park Pool, Pueblo | $5 per dog, humans FREE. The pool closes out summer by going completely to the dogs. Literally. 😂🐾

6. 🥋 FREE Family Capoeira Open House | Sept. 7, 2–5 PM | 525 E. Fountain Blvd., Colorado Springs | FREE and open to kids, adults and families. Try kicks, acrobatics, instruments, music and Brazilian Capoeira with no previous experience required.

7. 🦇 Batty About Castle Rock | Sept. 8, 6–7 PM | Philip S. Miller Park, Castle Rock | FREE. Learn about Colorado's bats, their adaptations and why they're important to our ecosystem.

8. 🪨 Homeschool Day: Rock & Mineral ID | Sept. 9, 1–2:30 PM | Western Museum of Mining & Industry, Colorado Springs | A particularly good Buzzy homeschool pick with hands-on STEM and Colorado history.

9. 🐢 Stroller Safari: Scutes & Scales | Sept. 2, 9–10 AM | Cheyenne Mountain Zoo | Special programming designed for little explorers and their grown-ups, focusing on animals with scutes and scales.

10. 🥕 Colorado Farm & Art Market | Sept. 2, 3–7 PM | The Meanwhile Block, 425 S. Sierra Madre St., Colorado Springs | Local produce, food and handmade artisan goods.

11. 🎺 Big Band in the Park | Sept. 2 | 2408 W. Colorado Ave., Colorado Springs | An easy midweek outdoor music pick and something a little different from the festival-heavy weekend.

12. 🎶 Jazz in the Parks: New Horizons Kicks Band | Sept. 2 | 423 N. Cascade Ave., Colorado Springs | Another outdoor-music option for families looking for a laid-back evening.

13. 🥾 Wednesday Guided Walk at Garden of the Gods | Sept. 2, 9:30–11:30 AM | Garden of the Gods Visitor & Nature Center | $5. Approximately a one-mile guided exploration through one of Colorado Springs' most iconic landscapes.

14. 🌎 Heller Center Dot Days: Seeds of a Planetary Future | Sept. 3 | UCCS/Heller Center, Colorado Springs | Gallery programming, artist talk and an outdoor movie night at 7:30 PM kick off the multi-day community festival.

15. 🌱 Heller Center Dot Days: Speaking of Nature | Sept. 4, beginning at 5 PM | UCCS Downtown, Colorado Springs | Researcher tables, a nature talk and community reception.

16. 🌻 Heller Center Dot Days: Sustaining Communities | Sept. 8 | Hillside Hub, Colorado Springs | Includes no-cost groceries and volunteer opportunities earlier in the day, garden and compost tours, food trucks, a workshop, cooking demonstration and evening films/discussion.

17. 🎨 Heller Center Dot Days: Cultural Connections | Sept. 9 | Colorado Springs Pioneers Museum | Farmers market, children's activities, museum galleries, visiting exhibit and art-making stations from 4–7 PM, plus workshops and film screenings. This is one of my strongest weekday family picks.

18. 🥬 Sunday Market in Acacia Park | Sept. 6, 9 AM–2 PM | Downtown Colorado Springs | Fresh food, locally made goods and an easy Sunday-morning wander.

19. 🍅 Festival Park Farmers Market | Sept. 6, 9 AM–2 PM | Festival Park, Castle Rock | FREE admission. Local produce, farm-fresh eggs, meats, baked goods and artisan vendors.

20. 🎶 Hillside Gardens Summer Concert | Sept. 9, gates 5 PM; music 6–8:30 PM | Hillside Gardens & Event Center, Colorado Springs | $18. Three live bands, gardens and food vendors make this a fun Wednesday-night finale to the week's list.
