This Community Education Course will afford participants to experience three productions revolving around female protagonists: a contemporary American single mother struggling to care from her chronically ill son while searching for support and community; two Cuban sisters under house arrest in the 1990’s yearning for political, artistic, and personal freedom; a 19th century Norwegian wife and mother trapped in a suffocating marriage trying to find the courage to asset her personal autonomy.
The course will include 8 sessions held on campus at Harper and three “sessions” where participants will attend performances at two area theaters located in Glencoe and in Skokie. The final performance will be held at Harper.
A preview session and a post-show discussion session will frame each theater going experience. The initial session will serve as a “meet and greet” to set up the course’s logistics and kick off the discussion of playwrights and plays we will explore.
Participants will be responsible for purchasing their own tickets and provide their transportation to the performances over a two to three-week period between the preview and discussion sessions on campus.
