[2026.05.20] The President's Award
Honored to receive the President's Award as an Outstanding Faculty Member for Excellent Publications at Sookmyung Women's University.
This recognition reflects our research team's dedication to advancing science through impactful discoveries in epigenetics, redox signaling, and mitochondrial biology.
Sincerely thank all students and colleagues for their invaluable support. Looking forward to achieving even greater milestones together!
[2026.03.31] 🎉Congratulations! Yoonae and Yena’s paper has been accepted in Journal of Biomedical Science (IF 12.1, 4.6%)
This article provides an integrative overview of PRMT biology, linking multilayered regulatory mechanisms to oncogenic functions and therapeutic potential, thereby advancing our understanding of arginine methylation in cancer.
This achievement is especially meaningful as it was accomplished during an exceptionally demanding period, with Yoonae preparing for the Pharmacist Licensing Exam and Yena undergoing her Ph.D. defense. Congratulations on this remarkable milestone—Yoonae’s first publication and Yena’s 13th publication.
[2026.02.20] 🎉Congratulations, Dr. Yena Cho has been awarded a PhD degree.
Dr. Yena Cho has been awarded her Ph.D. in Pharmaceutical Sciences. Throughout her doctoral training, she reached milestones that serve as a true inspiration to her peers. In a remarkable coincidence, her latest research was accepted for publication in Advanced Science on the very day of her degree conferral, making the ceremony even more memorable. We congratulate Dr. Cho on this significant achievement and look forward to the groundbreaking work she will undoubtedly produce as an independent researcher.
[2026.02.20] Congratulations!🎉 Yena’s 12th paper has been accepted in Advanced Science (IF 14.1, 7.9%)
This study challenges the long-standing view of arginine methylation as an irreversible mark, offering a new perspective on how epigenetic information is dynamically reprogrammed during cell division. By elucidating a previously unrecognized mechanism for the transient resetting of mitotic chromatin, our findings significantly broaden the understanding of epigenetic control and genome stability. This work is particularly meaningful, as its official acceptance coincided with Dr. Yena Cho’s doctoral degree conferment.
[2026.01.21] Congratulations! Yena’s 11th paper has been accepted in Cell Death & Disease (IF 9.6, 14.2%)
This study reveals that mitochondrial enzyme activity is finely regulated by reversible arginine methylation, identifying a CARM1–KDM3A/4A axis that dynamically decouples IDH2 enzymatic activity from protein stability. These findings establish a previously unrecognized post-translational regulatory layer governing mitochondrial metabolic homeostasis, providing a conceptual foundation for mitochondria-targeted therapeutic strategies.
🎉 Congratulations to Yena on the 11th publication (14th including co-authored works)!
[2025.11.28] A Fellow of the Korean Academy of Science and Technology (KAST)
Professor Yong Kee Kim has been elected as a Fellow of the Korean Academy of Science and Technology (KAST), the nation’s most prestigious scientific institution.
At the KAST General Assembly on November 27, he was selected as one of 34 new Fellow for 2026 in the Division of Medical and Pharmaeutical Sciences. He is the first Sookmyung Women’s University professor to join KAST in 30 years, following Professor Emeritus Young-Ja Park of the Department of Chemistry, who was elected to the Division of Natural Sciences in 1995.
[2025.10.21] Congratulations!🎉 Yena’s 10th paper has been accepted in Experimental & Molecular Medicine (IF 12.9, 4.2%)
This article addresses a fundamental biological question: how do cells maintain a consistent amount of protein within themselves? It presents a comprehensive review of the mechanisms that regulate the total levels of actin and tubulin—the most abundant cellular proteins—drawing on findings from our laboratory and recent research advances. Through this work, the study deepens our understanding of essential life processes.
🎉 Congratulations to Yena on your 10th publication (13th including co-authored works)!
[2025.010.18] Congratulations! 🎉 Yena Cho Honored with a “Triple Crown”
Yena Cho has been honored with a remarkable “triple crown,” receiving the Moon Sook Saebyul Award (문숙 새별여성과학자상) from WBF, the Outstanding Young Researcher Award (미래약학우수논문상) from the Pharmaceutical Society of Korea, and the Next-Generation Pharmacologist Award (차세대 약리학자상) from the Korean Society of Pharmacology.
Congratulations to Yena for this outstanding achievement.
[2025.10.03] Congratulations!🎉 Yena’s 9th paper has been accepted in Molecular Medicine (IF 6.4, 15.0%)
This article is concise and impactful, aiming for quick communication rather than an in-depth exploration.
