A high-speed pursuit through suburban neighborhoods ended in gunfire Tuesday as California Highway Patrol (CHP) officers engaged with an armed suspect driving an orange Mustang. The FBI has released its preliminary findings into the deadly encounter, titled “Housing Pursuit.”
The incident began when CHP Commissioner J. King initiated a traffic stop due to speeding and reckless driving. The suspect refused to yield, leading officers on a pursuit through residential areas.
According to the FBI report, the suspect exited the vehicle during the chase, drew a firearm, and opened fire on pursuing officers. CHP returned fire, discharging approximately 20 rounds. The suspect was killed on scene. No officers were injured in the exchange.
FBI Director William Gray is overseeing the ongoing investigation. While we wait for body camera footage to release, the bureau notes that photos will be released with the report.
This is a developing story, and more will be released as found out.
