Guest entry by u/SpacedGodzilla describing a sinister ambush predator
Mudgazer, Astrocopus Monstrum
Status: Least Concern
Certainly not known for its good looks, the Mudgazer is a patient and hidden predator which stalks the shallows of the Mossfell Islands. Like many other stargazer fish, it spends much of its time lying in wait for an unsuspecting meal to disturb the waters above. The mudgazer is known for its gregarious behavior, and will often bite down on whatever it can fit in its mouth, even if the creature that appendage is connected to is significantly larger than the mudgazer. For this reason, tourists are warned to avoid any murky or swampy waters where this creature lives. In significantly rainy periods, the mudgazer is known to emerge from the water in search of prey in muddy basins and patches. It is not uncommon to hear a heart breaking story of a yorkie or chihuahua falling prey to the opportunistic jaws of the mudgazer.
