Half Season, 2023

Tegan Ritz McDuffie

Video, 7 minutes, 2023

Half Season, 2023 is a short form video exploration of becoming unfamiliar within change.

Drawing from a personal archive of social and environmental documentary photography and film, this video features an assemblage of footage gathered during a prolonged repatriation from Abu Dhabi to Pennsylvania.

This iteration documents a season of attempts to remediate capitalist burnout by re-establishing a reciprocal partnership with the land where the artist grew up, located in the traditional territory of the Lenni-Lenape. The affect of the form stages a scene to release the internal horror of endlessly negotiating ethical choices in an increasingly convoluted global system, personified as the Anthropocene.

“There is no other nature, no other whatness than this absence of break and this sense of continuity in that most intimate of all conjunctive relations, the passing of one experience into another when they belong to the same self.”

- William James
