The Timeline​

The stars have long witnessed the rise and fall of empires. The struggle between light and dark rages in the souls of beings, and where the forces of destiny carve their indelible marks. A tapestry of legends unfolds. It is a realm where Jedi and Sith, ancient orders steeped in the mysteries of the Force, wield both hope and despair like weapons.

The rise of heroes like Revan and the fall of empires like the Infinite Empire are chapters etched into the very bones of the cosmos. They tell of battles fought with lightsabers and minds, of power sought and power lost, and of destinies that ripple through eons.

In these tales, the echoes of choices resonate through the stars. Amid darkness, there is always a glimmer of hope, a flicker of redemption, as beings strive to find balance in a galaxy that craves equilibrium.

This galaxy's destiny is shaped by those who dare to shape their own fates.

The Fundaments​

Hundreds of millions of years after the Big Bang, life began to emerge across the primitive worlds. Species began to develop, develop technology, and reached for the stars. In time, the first ancient Empire emerged; that of the Celestials.

The Celestials​

The Celestials' origins, appearance, and abilities are a mystery. Some believe they originally seeded the core worlds of the Galaxy with life itself. It is only known that their very existence at one point dominated the stars. The greatest of the other ancient civilizations; the Gree, the Kwa, the Kiliks, and the Rakatans, all served as servile client states in service to the Celestials. These enslaved species were the builders of great works, constructed by the will of the Celestials.

During this time, the Gree developed primitive hyperspace travel, creating Hypergates to travel across the stars. The Kwa, for the same purpose, constructed Infinity Gates, which utilized a 'pocket dimension' as opposed to hyperspace for instant transit across the stars. The ability to construct these has been lost to time.

The dominion of the Celestials existed for many tens of thousands of years.

In time, the Kwa enlightened the Rakatans to the use of the Force; the Rakatans, ignoring the balance taught by the Kwa, quickly utilized the full extent of the power of the dark side.

The Tho Yor Arrival​

A group of Force-sensitive pilgrims known as the Je'daii discovered the enigmatic Tho Yor, massive pyramid-shaped starships guided by the will of the Force. These vessels gathered Force-sensitive beings from different worlds, uniting them on the planet Tython to form the Je'daii Order, a group that sought balance between the light and dark sides of the Force. The Order of Dai Bendu, an early precursor to the Jedi, advocated for the Bendu philosophy, emphasizing the harmony of the Ashla (light side) and Bogan (dark side) as a means to peace.

Celestial Collapse​

The Celestials' collapse is as mysterious as their origins. In 31,000 BFE, the Ratakan client state revolted against their overlords. The Rakatans quickly developed a powerbase to war against the Celestials; creating hyperdrives to mobilize their fleets, themselves created by the Star Forge. The Star Forge was a megastructure which produced warships at an immense pace, all powered by an endless hunger for the dark side of the force. By utilizing dark curses, stolen technology, and an endless hyperdrive-equipped fleet, they conquered most of the known Galaxy. By 26,000 BFE, the Celestials had disappeared without a trace.

The Infinite Empire​

The Rakatan Infinite Empire extended its oppressive grip, subjugating countless species through the Force-powered technology of the Star Forge. The Rakata, adept in the dark side, wielded the Force as a tool of domination.

The Sith'ari​

On the distant world of Korriban, King Adas unified the warlike Sith peoples. For three centuries, he ruled over Korriban, worshipped by the Sith as the 'Sith'ari'. In time, the Rakatans found Korriban and began to 'enlighten' the Sith to their technologies, before they would later try to enslave them. The Rakatans introduced Adas to holocron technology, and he recorded his own before he preempted the Rakatan enslavement, declaring war upon the Infinite Empire. He led his people against the Rakatans, pushing them back from Korriban, and even expanding the Sith territory to Ziost, Malachor V, and Tund. However, during the fighting, Adas was slain, and Korriban was turned into a tomb world.

The Rakatan Empire's Fall​

As knowledge of hyperspace travel spread, united species and rebellions emerged to challenge the Rakatan Empire. The Rakata, plagued by internal strife and weakened by overreliance on the dark side, faced relentless resistance. Eventually, the Rakatan's dark side nexus, the Star Forge, began to feed off of its masters' dark energy. Slaves and rebellious worlds rose up across the Galaxy against their overlords; civil war emerged amongst the infinite worlds in the iron grip of the Rakatans. The worst was yet to come for the Rakatans, as a disease spread amongst their population that not only killed most of their population, but severed their connection to the Force if they survived.

Eventually, the Rakatans were no longer able to use the Force-based technology they had created, leaving behind relics and artifacts whose mechanics are known to none. The galaxy was free from their tyranny, but the legacy of the Rakatan's dark side influence persisted in the technology they left behind. Even still, the true mechanics of hyperspace are unknown to the Galaxy, as the knowledge of its functionality died with the Empire.

The Ancient Orders​

The Force Wars​

The Force Wars, a decade-long conflict over seven centuries before the Galactic Republic's formation on Tython, marked the first major clash between the adherents of the light and dark sides of the Force. Originating from the invasion by the Rakatan Infinite Empire, these wars began to take shape after the Despot War and a fateful Force vision experienced by Je'daii Master Daegen Lok. The vision split the Je'daii Order, leading to a fundamental ideological schism: the Ashla followers sought knowledge through the light side, while the Bogan adherents pursued power through the dark side. The conflict involved the use of traditional Force-augmented metal swords and Forcesabers. Despite efforts for peace under the Jedi's High Council, the defection of Master Rajivari and ensuing battles highlighted the deepening rift. Ultimately, a cataclysm devastated Tython, culminating in the scattering of Je'daii and setting the stage for the future evolution of the Force.

The Rise of the Galactic Republic​

In the wake of conflicts and disputes among the Core Worlds, the Galactic Republic emerged as a beacon of democracy and order. Senators representing various star systems convened on the planet Coruscant, adopting a democratic system that promised representation and justice for all. The Republic's guiding principles championed the ideals of equality, justice, and the rule of law. The early Republic was heavily influenced by the 'Four Sages of Dwartii' -- Sistros, Braata, Faya, and Yanjun, whose collective wisdom, tempered with cold and ruthless practicality, laid the foundation for the Republic's practical political philosophy.

The Great Schism​

The First Great Schism, an early conflict in the enduring struggle between the light and dark sides of the Force, emerged from ideological divisions among Force-wielders who had settled on Tython. Discontent with the Jedi Order's rigid practices, a dissenting faction led by Xendor sought to explore alternative traditions of the Force. This divergence culminated in the emergence of the Legions of Lettow, followers of Xendor who embraced the dark side and rejected the Jedi's authority over their exploration of the Force's mysteries. The conflict, which spiraled into open war with disputed origins, saw battles on several worlds, culminating in Xendor's defeat and the extermination of his followers by the Jedi. This schism, and its ultimate resolution, reshaped the Jedi Order's role in the galaxy and marked a pivotal moment in the ongoing struggle between the light and dark sides of the Force.

The Hundred-Year Darkness​

The Hundred-Year Darkness, also known as the Second Great Schism, was a prolonged conflict commencing in 7000 BBY where a faction of Force-wielders, the Dark Jedi, engaged in a bitter struggle against the Jedi Order and the Galactic Republic. Originating from a sect of Jedi practicing potent Force techniques, the conflict emerged from a schism, driven by diverging beliefs on harnessing the Force's power. The Dark Jedi sought to extend their powers to manipulate life and create new beings, diverging from the traditional Jedi teachings. This discord led to a century-long war, marked by relentless battles, ultimately culminating in the defeat of the Dark Jedi at the Battle of Corbos. The surviving Dark Jedi were then exiled, inadvertently discovering and dominating the world of Korriban, where they would give birth to the Sith, shaping the galaxy's future conflict between the light and dark sides of the Force.

The Old Sith Empire​

The Dark Lord of the Sith​

The foundation of the Sith by the Dark Jedi, especially Ajunta Pall, Sorzus Syn, and Karness Muur, is a tale of intrigue and the corruption of power. The Sith's origins can be traced back to a group of exiled Dark Jedi who, following the Hundred-Year Darkness, found themselves on the remote world of Korriban. Led by the formidable Ajunta Pall, these Dark Jedi were initially met with resistance from the native Sith, but Pall's cunning and power enabled them to subjugate the Sith, ultimately becoming their rulers.

Sorzus Syn, another exiled Jedi, played a pivotal role in shaping the Sith's culture and practices. Her journal, chronicled in the Book of Sith, sheds light on her encounters with Sith Purebloods, her explorations in alchemy, and the establishment of the Sith Code. She, along with Ajunta Pall and their fellow Dark Jedi, set the foundation for the Sith Order, with their influence leading to the development of Sith temples and a thriving Sith civilization.

Karness Muur, one of the Dark Jedi during the Hundred-Year Darkness, possessed a unique Sith amulet that could transform individuals into mindless thralls under his control. Muur's desire for power extended to the creation of the Rakghoul plague, further solidifying the Sith's dark legacy. These individuals, driven by their lust for power and discontent with the Jedi Order, not only shaped the Sith but also laid the groundwork for future conflicts between the light and dark sides of the Force. Ajunta Pall's eventual redemption at the hands of Jedi Knight Revan serves as a testament to the ever-present struggle between these opposing forces.

The Golden Age of the Sith​

During the Golden Age of the Sith, the Sith Empire emerged as a formidable force, utilizing sorcery and the dark side of the Force to enhance their technology, often repurposed relics of the ancient Infinite Empire. With roots in the Battle of Kalsunor, where they used Silooths to conquer the planet Kalsunor, the Sith Empire grew to encompass at least 120 worlds at its zenith. Isolated within the Stygian Caldera, their existence became a myth to the broader galaxy. They occasionally enslaved travelers, incorporating them into their society and forming the foundation for the Lost Tribe of the Sith. Amidst this era, Sith Holocrons spoke of the sought-after Muur Talisman.

The Ancient Sith Lords​

Tulak Hord, an early ruler during the Golden Age, was famed for unparalleled dueling skills, earning recognition as the "greatest lightsaber duelist of the Sith Lords." Darth Andeddu also ruled during this period, amassing a vast swath of artifacts and knowledge before being overthrown and disappearing. In the later stages of the Golden Age, stability was maintained under the reign of the long-lived and formidable Dark Lord, Marka Ragnos. With masterful use of the dark side and sharp intellect, Ragnos ascended to power and kept potential rivals in check through various means. However, his death initiated a power struggle, leaving a vacuum in Sith leadership, ultimately setting the stage for the ambitious Ludo Kressh and Naga Sadow to vie for the Sith throne.

The Great Hyperspace War​

The Great Hyperspace War marked the first conflict between the Jedi and Sith. The war commenced when Republic hyperspace explorers accidentally stumbled upon Korriban. The ensuing conflict saw Sith Lord Naga Sadow masterminding the invasion of numerous Republic worlds, utilizing surprise and rapid victories to initially overwhelm the Republic Navy. However, a discovery of Sadow's Force illusions shifted the tide, and the Republic managed to rally its forces, eventually annihilating both Sadow's and rival Ludo Kressh's Sith fleets. The aftermath witnessed the fall of the Old Sith Empire, scattering surviving Sith across different worlds.

The Great Sith War​

The Great Sith War was relentless clash of ideologies and destinies. At its core were three key figures: Freedon Nadd, a fallen Jedi whose descent into darkness ignited the inferno; Ulic Qel-Droma, a once-devoted Jedi who ventured deep into the abyss; and Exar Kun, the charismatic Sith Lord who emerged as the harbinger of a new Sith age. It began with the haunting shadow cast by Freedon Nadd, whose dark influence gripped the remote world of Onderon. The Jedi's desperate battle against Nadd's malevolent grasp sent tremors through the hallowed halls of the Jedi Order, an ominous prelude to the gathering storm.

The resurgence of the Sith came to full fruition during the Freedon Nadd Uprising, as the Krath seized power and unraveled the galaxy's tapestry. Armed with Sith lore gleaned from Nadd's acolytes, the Krath orchestrated a ruthless coup within the Empress Teta system, triggering a bloody cascade across Republic space. In the midst of this chaos, Ulic Qel-Droma made a fateful choice to infiltrate the Krath, only to succumb to the dark side's seductive allure. United with the enigmatic Exar Kun, another fallen Jedi, they became architects of galactic upheaval. Together, they unleashed campaigns of terror upon the Republic, culminating in a daring assault on the very heart of civilization, Coruscant itself. Yet, their ambitions ultimately led to their undoing: Kun's retreat to the dark sanctuary of Yavin 4, Qel-Droma's capture, and the Jedi's resolute pursuit of the Sith to bring an end to the tumultuous Great Sith War.

Knights of the Old Republic​

The Mandalorian Wars​

The Mandalorian Wars erupted as the Mandalorian clans, under the leadership of Mandalore the Ultimate, embarked on a campaign of conquest throughout the Outer Rim. The Republic initially hesitated to intervene, but Jedi Knights Revan and Malak, both esteemed leaders, felt compelled to act. They defied the Jedi Council's orders, believing that preemptive action was necessary to halt the Mandalorian threat. Their charisma and strategic brilliance rallied many Jedi to their cause.

The Jedi Civil War​

The Mandalorian Wars transformed into the Jedi Civil War when Revan and Malak, seduced by the dark side and the Sith teachings they had uncovered in their campaign, turned against the Republic and the Jedi Order. Revan's fall was a pivotal moment as he declared himself Darth Revan and took the mantle of Sith Lord. The galaxy plunged into chaos as the Sith Empire, led by Revan and Malak, clashed with the Republic and the Jedi.

The Redemption of Revan​

Amidst the chaos, a mysterious Jedi emerged. This individual, whose memory was wiped by the Jedi Council, fought for the Republic and sought to confront the dark legacy of Revan and Malak. Together with the aid of allies like Bastila Shan, they uncovered the truth behind the Star Forge and the ancient Sith's influence. Revan, having regained their former identity, was redeemed and ultimately defeated Malak, destroying the Star Forge. Revan's journey, however, led them to the Unknown Regions, disappearing from known space.

The Jedi Purge​

From the remnants of Revan's Sith Empire, new threats arose. Deep shadows were cast from Revan's acts during the Mandalorian Wars — especially the usage of the weapon of mass destruction, the Mass Shadow Generator. Its usage upon Malachor V wiped out Revanite and Mandalorian Forces alike. This weapon destroyed Malachor itself, creating a mass grave and dark side nexus. In the period after Revan's redemption, the Sith were without leadership, and soon a Triumvirate, bound by hatred, was formed.

From Malachor there was a survivor; Darth Nihilus, the Lord of Hunger, ever craving to consume the Force essence of the living, like the deaths that allowed his survival despite being drawn into the gravity well created on Malachor. A survivor from the Great Sith War, Darth Sion, the Lord of Pain, whose willpower, pain, and hatred crystallized into immortality. Darth Traya, the Lord of Betrayal, came upon the dark side nexus on Malachor and turned on her Jedi ways, becoming head of the Trayus Academy and passing her dark teachings onto a new generation of Sith. Together, they orchestrated the Jedi Purge. While Traya manipulated the Jedi from the shadows, Sion hunted down the Jedi one-by-one. All the while, Nihilus went from planet to planet, consuming the essence of all life upon the planet. Eventually, at the Conclave at Katarr, all known surviving Jedi in the Galaxy were consumed by Nihilus' hunger.

This Triumvirate found its end in the Jedi Exile, once among Revan's most ardent Jedi supporters during the Mandalorian Wars. The Exile severed their connection to the Force as they launched the Mass Shadow Generator attack, and was exiled from the Order by the will of the Jedi Council. In time, being manipulated by Darth Traya in disguise as Kreia, the Exile destroyed the Triumvirate and eventually Traya herself.

Post-War Turmoil​

The galaxy faced a power vacuum after the Sith and Jedi were both nearly eradicated. Warlordism and factionalism thrived as systems and individuals sought to exploit the weakened Republic and Empire. The ancient philosophies of the Jedi and Sith continued to influence the political landscape, with Sith cults and rogue Jedi emerging as potent forces. The galaxy teetered on the brink of chaos, caught between the lingering shadows of Revan's legacy and the uncertain future. In this tumultuous era, the clash of politics and philosophies remained ever-present, shaping the destiny of a galaxy still haunted by its past. Throughout the 200 years of relative peace, the Republic rose from the ashes and rebuilt itself. The Sith struggled with factionalism and weak leadership, and became relegated to the shadows of the Galaxy yet again.
