The Jedi Trials the Master are a test of the Knight's adherence to the values of the Jedi Order, not just through direct actions, but also by testing their core attributes.
The trials can be accomplished in two ways; either by direct evaluation done by the mentor, or through an opportunity if such an opportunity presents itself.
Mastery over lightsaber techniques and advanced combat proficiency. Testing not only dueling skills but also the ability to lead others in combat and respond to unexpected scenarios.
The candidate must face three opponents of varying skill, one after the other, with no breaks. Each duel will emphasize a different lightsaber form (Form II - precision, Form V - strength, and Form VI - balance) and different combat conditions (dueling against multiple foes, terrain difficulties, etc.). Additionally, the candidate must direct a group of Padawans through a coordinated strike on a hostile target while engaging in combat themselves.
The candidate demonstrates adaptability, mastery of multiple forms, strategic leadership, and is able to maintain defense while managing their team's objectives.
The candidate loses composure, fails to direct their team effectively, or is unable to adjust to their opponents' tactics.
If a Sith Lord+ challenges the candidate during a significant event, and the candidate is able to defeat them while ensuring the safety of their group, it counts as passing the Trial of Skill.
Demonstration of exceptional bravery, leadership, and decisive action in life-threatening situations.
The candidate is sent on a mission to rescue a captured Jedi from deep within enemy territory or lead a high-stakes battle where they must overcome overwhelming odds. Unlike the Padawan trial, the Master candidate will be expected to coordinate a team, manage resources, and make quick decisions under pressure.
The candidate remains calm and confident, showing leadership in the face of danger. They balance risk with reward and successfully complete the mission with minimal loss.
If an unplanned crisis (such as a Sith invasion) occurs, and the candidate leads a defense that successfully repels the enemy, this can count as the Trial of Courage.
Testing the candidate's mastery over their inner self, resisting the temptations of the dark side, and achieving inner peace.
The candidate is placed into a deep Force vision or mindscape where they confront their darkest fears, past regrets, or unfulfilled desires. This could involve facing representations of Sith temptations, tragic events from their past, or conflicts between their Jedi ideals and personal ambitions.
The candidate overcomes these internal struggles, remaining steadfast in their commitment to the light side and demonstrating clarity of mind.
If, during a mission, the candidate must make a significant ethical decision—such as whether to sacrifice themselves or others for the greater good—and they handle the emotional strain with wisdom, this can count as the Trial of Spirit.
Demonstrating exceptional wisdom, perception, and the ability to solve complex problems without resorting to force.
The candidate is presented with a Jedi riddle or a complex diplomatic scenario requiring both insight and creativity. For instance, they may need to defuse a conflict between two opposing factions without using combat, or solve a historical puzzle involving ancient Jedi artifacts.
The candidate shows a deep understanding of the Force, patience, and wisdom in finding a non-violent solution or discovering the deeper meaning behind the puzzle.
Rushing to conclusions, relying on brute force, or failing to grasp the broader context.
If the candidate encounters a difficult situation during a mission—such as brokering peace between warring parties or deciphering a hidden Sith threat—their ability to use their insight and intellect to navigate the situation can serve as their Trial of Insight.
A culmination of the candidate's understanding of the Jedi Code, mastery of their chosen Path, and demonstration of all lessons learned throughout their journey.
This final trial takes place in a challenging, controlled environment reflecting the candidate's Path and requiring them to call upon everything they've learned. It could involve elements from all previous trials, such as combat, leadership, emotional resilience, and problem-solving.
The candidate must recite the Jedi Code, but now they will need to go beyond the words and offer a profound philosophical interpretation of each line, linking it not only to their own experiences but to broader Jedi teachings and their role in the galaxy.
The candidate offers a deep, thoughtful, and personal interpretation of the Code, showing how it applies not only to them but to the Order as a whole.
Failure to connect with the Code on a deeper level or showing a superficial understanding of its meaning.
The candidate will articulate their chosen path and must present a detailed analysis of how their expertise contributes to the Jedi Order, demonstrating the role they will play as a leader and guide for the next generation.
The candidate demonstrates profound knowledge and vision for their role within the Order, with a clear plan on how they will contribute.
Failure to present a coherent or meaningful path, or lack of confidence in their chosen direction.
After successfully completing all components, the Knight will present their insights on the experience to the Jedi High Councilor and fellow Jedi. They will reflect on how their journey has shaped their understanding of the Force and their role as a Jedi.
The Jedi High Council will deliberate, considering the Knight's performance across all trials, mastery of the Jedi Code, and execution of Path challenges.
If the Council is satisfied with the Knight's performance, they will be officially knighted as a Jedi Master, receiving a lightsaber and a formal title.
If the Council determines further training is needed, the Knight will receive guidance and recommendations for improvement. Those who fail will be told of the reason and advised to report to an Instructor for further instruction.
