It is not uncommon for people to view the Jedi in a feared manner. To much of the outside galaxy, the Jedi are mysterious and sometimes scary. It is important that we as Jedi, form good relations and strong bonds utilizing Diplomacy. Being able to form good diplomatic relations with others proves vital to common operation.
Jedi Consulars are the path most often affiliated with subjects such as diplomacy. Why? Consulars focus on the teachings of the force and the knowledge it provides, preferring peace over that of combat. Due to this, Consulars are often trusted the most with Jedi-related negotiations and discussions, such as Diplomacy.
Both the Jedi Order and the Republic use diplomacy to help sway the opinions of foreign governments/planets in an attempt to form good relationships. Whether it be forming peace treaties, neutral agreements, or conditions, it can be argued that diplomacy is as important as combat and army size.
Whenever it comes to introductions with any civilization, you want to be as peaceful as possible, especially with foreign leaders. When dealing with a foreign leader, you must treat them with respect as if they have more notoriety than the common people. The biggest thing is to respect their culture and how they act because if you don’t, you will be disrespecting them, causing them to not think fondly of you or the Republic, nor what you wish to say.
Follow what the foreign leader does and act but never to the point where you lose your own moral values of the Republic. With less advanced societies, the same thing applies- You will respect their culture and do your best to not offend their people. Engage in their culture, but don’t act like you are the same as them as you are new to their culture.
To conduct one, the introduction is the most important thing- anything after is watching and following what the other culture does. For the introduction, you will say something along the lines of “Hello, I’m here on behalf of the Jedi Order, we are here to help/accommodate in any way possible”.
That is an example of an introductory statement- From there it depends on the personality/desires of the other party.
It is also very important to maintain respect for any culture/species you may engage in. Whether it be ceremonies, gifts, celebrations, or social expectations- It is vital that you pay attention and oblige by the demands of a culture.
In order to ensure the Younglings retained knowledge throughout the duration of the class, the teacher will now run Roleplay scenarios. For these scenarios, the teacher will be playing the primary character role, and the youngling will be playing the part of the Jedi. It’s important that the younglings know they will be roleplaying instead of normally answering the questions.
You and two other Jedi Consulars have finished a discussion with high-ranking [ THE TEACHER ] Gungan leaders. In an expression of gratitude, the Gungans offer you a rare Gungan cultural artifact. Roleplay how you would go about this situation.
Good - Ideally, the Youngling will take the artifact in appreciation in order to preserve the relationship they just made and respect Gungan culture.
Bad - If the Youngling doesn’t take the artifact, they are directly disrespecting Gungan culture and the offer of appreciation, ruining the relationship they just built. RP that you are aggravated.
You are on an outer-rim planet providing humanitarian relief on behalf of the Republic. A cultural expectation for those who live on the planet is that men do not directly approach women without proper reason. You see another Jedi [ THE TEACHER ] do exactly this. Roleplay how you would go about this situation.
Good - In this situation, the Youngling should ideally intervene in the situation, aiming to maintain the relationship being built with the people of the planet.
Bad - The bad outcome of this roleplay would be the Youngling failing to stop the situation, leading to the other Jedi eventually disrespecting the women and their people’s culture.
You are conducting negotiations for a peace treaty with a world-leader [ THE TEACHER ]. You have been tasked with speaking on behalf of the Republic. The treaty is vital, but the leader demands access to secure Republic hyperspace lanes for trade. Roleplay how you would go about this situation.
Good - Under the peace-treaty, and due to the importance of the relationship, the Younglings could grant access to secure Republic hyperspace routes, as they are a part of the Republic upon the signing of the treaty.
Bad - If the Youngling doesn’t agree with the terms, the leader will get aggravated and call off the treaty, and the planet will remain neutral.
