The brigade runs regular training sessions and events to ensure that members have an opportunity to continue to learn new skills and practice existing skills.

Training to look out for: CCA, CCO and FAA (first aid)
To nominate to attend a training course run at a district level:
Speak with the Brigade Training Officer or Captain to gain approval to attend the course.
Complete the training nomination form on The Hills Members Portal.
The RFS offers a range of courses and training programs to support the development of members' skills and knowledge.
New training pathways have been introduced, the following is applicable for Comms:
New Comms members must access FUEL and complete New Member Induction and Bush Fire Awareness (BFA).
New comms members can review the Comms Manual and progressively complete the Comms Skill Cards on shift.
All members should complete the Comms Centre Assistant (CCA). In 2026, this training is available 7 - 8 February. Book via The Hills District Portal by 6 Jan. Note: Skill Cards are used as evidence to support the CCA assessment.
To undertake activities near a fireground (including OCV, scribe, transporting to/from a fireground) Comms are required to undertake an Overrrun Workshop and watch a 'Dead Man Zone' video. 2026 dates are TBA. Comms members could also complete Fire Fighter (FF1).
All Comms members are encouraged to complete First Aid Application (FAA). Apply for the course via the Hills District Portal, theory is completed via FUEL.
Comms members are encouraged to complete other relevant courses available on FUEL, such as Australian Fire Danger Rating System, AIIMS Principles, Introduction to Community Engagement, RFS Member Wellbeing Awareness, Respectful and Inclusive Workplace, Workplace Complaints Resolution Framework for Volunteer Members, Wildlife First Response for NSW Firefighters, Work Safely Around Aircraft, Computer Aided Dispatch, and Mobile Data Terminal - Adashi First Response.
Comms members may then complete the Comms Centre Operator (CCO) in-person course. In 2026 this will be on 16-17 May. Book via Hills District Portal by 15 April.
All RFS members need a USI (unique Student identifier) for training.
