Targeted skills: preliminary exercise to develop storyboards, navigating WeVideo editing software, adjusting duration and looping in animation
As students prepared to develop 3 frame eye animations- they applied their foundational technique to observational drawing.
Rather than using still life objects, students used digital photos of their own eyes. These eyes are the first of three- soon to be edited into Gif's using WeVideo editing software. Larger connections were made with the Gif Lab at MIT- where emotion and digital media is researched.
Students evaluated artist Lorna Simpson's collages, analyzing the themes present in her artwork. Students chose a theme most relevant to their own lives, inspiring the creation of a digital self-portrait as a visual response. These themes included: Race and Identity, Staged Photography: Self as Subject, Intersecting Identity, Photography and Words, and Repurposing Advertisements- Hair as Identity. Students worked in Pixlr Editor, which teaches Adobe Photoshop skills, applying over 5 editing skills to create their graphic design piece.
