Star Citizen is a multiplayer MMO; known as the PU (Persistent Universe) as all player interactions will have an effect on others as you will have the ability to free-roam and conduct missions of your choosing.
There will be multiple professions in Star Citizen so your not forced into always playing a combat role unlike the singleplayer version. Trading, Mining, Racing, Exploration.. are but a few examples.
Although space-travel is a big aspect of the game, you can walk about inside ships and planetside as your character will be able to interact with the world. Features such as changing character clothing, physical based inventory and simulation of air systems can lead to unique gameplay.

Squadrun 42
Squadrun 42 is the singleplayer campaign and a standalone game from Star Citizen. Originally this game was going to be the pitch for Star Citizen but as interest grew the game split into 2 projects that work alongside each other.
The story is meant to be a future depiction of the fall of Rome and you as the player are a new cadet to the navy as things kick off.

2. Buy a package and choose a starter ship. Kickstarter backers default starter ship was the 'RSI Aurora'.
3. Download RSI Launcher, install Star Citizen via Launcher. Note: The PTU (test server) uses its own Launcher and requires data to be copied via the website profile page.
