Alien Swarm -
https://store.steampowered.com/app/630/Alien_Swarm/This was the original free-to-play game made by Valve, its 4 player co-op with a fixed set of missions with 8 playable characters / 4 playable classes.
There is no reason to play this version anymore as the other includes gameplay from the first game.
Alien Swarm: Reactive Drop -
https://store.steampowered.com/app/563560/Alien_Swarm_Reactive_Drop/Alien Swarm.. Reactive Drop is also free-to-play and looks pretty much the same as the original except this game includes more functionality, challenges, achievements and Steam Workshop.
You can download either of these games for free from the Steam Store, simply go to the page and click "Play Game" and it will appear in your steam library. Note: this will not appear in your library when it is not installed so you'll have to revisit the steam page in order to redownload the game.
This is a top-down game where you control a single character with your gun facing the direction of your mouse.
When you reload you have the Gears of War reload mechanic where if you hit the sweet spot by pressing 'R' at the right time then you'll do bonus damage, however if you get the timing wrong then you'll jam your gun and perhaps be in more trouble as you'll likely be facing enemies.
In Co-op gamemode, when a player dies the mission ends, encouraging teamwork to survive the odds together.

The Officer uses Officer Skills, and applies damage and defense buffs to nearby squadmates. They are harder to kill than some marines.[Special Weapons]
The Special Weapons marine uses Special Weapons Skills and has a higher overall damage capability. They are good at mowing down swarms.[Medic]
The Medic uses Medic Skills, and has access to a variety of mass or singular healing tools to heal friendly marines and counter infestations from parasites.[Tech]
