SERVICE IN ALPHA PHI OMEGA
Service, the cornerstone of our fraternity, motivates everything else that we do. Service isn't merely on the campus, but all across the country. Working closely with groups such as local charities, the Red Cross, the Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts of America, and many more, we strive to make everywhere we go a better place for all.
Every semester, pledges and actives go outside of Lubbock to serve communities across the country. Previous Work Weekend sites have included Buffalo Trail Scout Ranch in the Davis Mountains, Camp Tonkawa in Abilene, and Camp Rio Blanco in Crosbyton.
Work Weekend is the most eventful service program that happens in the Beta Sigma Chapter. It's not just about the work that we do with other organizations, it's the fellowships that we do as a group, the famous Steak Fry tradition, and the stories we tell around the campfire. By going together to do work like helping Boy Scout camps and cleaning, we strenghten the bonds we have as members of Alpha Phi Omega. It's an experience that a one can never forget.
Work Weekend isn't the only off-campus place that service is done in the fraternity. We partner with many local organizations and do our own work to make Lubbock a better place. Organizations we work with in Lubbock have been the Children's Home and the Red Cross.
For the 85th anniversary of the chapter, we helped install smoke detectors for the Red Cross, setting them up in homes that do not have any. Every semester, we clean up a stretch of Lubbock's highways, keeping the city clean. We partner with local communities in Lubbock to do events for the community like the Pancake Festival. We volunteer in children and animal shelters around the city. There is no shortage of off-campus service events in Alpha Phi Omega.
