Alpha Phi Omega welcomes individuals from all backgrounds, regardless of major, gender, age, ethnicity, or community service experience. However, one must be enrolled at Texas Tech University in order to join our chapter.
Absolutely! Alpha Phi Omega is a professional Greek organization that offers the unique opportunity to be a member of APO while also joining any social organization. However, please note that you cannot simultaneously be a member of two social fraternities.
We stand apart from a typical club due to our distinct characteristics. While clubs often focus on specific interests or hobbies, Alpha Phi Omega is a nationally recognized co-ed service fraternity. We uphold the principles of Leadership, Friendship, and Service, aiming to develop well-rounded individuals who actively contribute to their communities. Unlike many other clubs, our organization offers structured programs, leadership opportunities, and a nationwide network of over 400,000 members. Through our commitment to service, personal growth, and fostering lifelong connections, Alpha Phi Omega provides a unique and transformative experience beyond what a traditional club can offer.
While many fraternities on campus are primarily social organizations, Alpha Phi Omega's main goal is performing service for community, campus, and country. This does not mean that social events or fellowship is non-existent or that it is unimportant for our members, but that we have many service programs and opportunities that aren't as easy to find in other fraternities. Unlike many fraternities, we offer service and leadership options for you to succeed in your academic and career goals.
Alpha Phi Omega members meet for 2 hours every week. We organize optional social events, leadership workshops, and other intermittent activities. Both active members and pledges are required to complete a certain amount of service work every semester, yet service events are easy to come by, and we are very accomodating of all schedules. Please contact us if you have any further questions about requirements and how they can fit your schedule.
Absolutely not! Alpha Phi Omega does not tolerate hazing or any form of informal initiation. Any behavior that puts our members or potential members at risk, physically or mentally, is unacceptable in our chapter. We have prioritized the values of human dignity, self-worth, and a safe and inclusive environment for all members since our founding. Because of this, we do not appear in Texas Tech's mandated history of student organization hazing.
Dues for pledges are usually around $200 for your first semester, but becomes around $130 a semester once you become an active member. Exact numbers for dues are notified to prospective members, and can be asked for in our social media. We have some of the cheapest dues out of any other fraternity, and have multiple programs like trimesterly payments and sponsorships to ensure that financial needs are never a concern for anyone joining Alpha Phi Omega.
Donations are always welcome! Our Venmo is @APOTTU, and if you need another way to donate, feel free to contact us.
