Throughout the school year, the math department uses the resources available through Khan Academy. There are hundreds of instructional videos and interactive practice problems addressing many of the topics we cover in math. By having your child create an account as part of his/her math class allows us to store students’ results and monitor their progress. Because Khan Academy is subject to the US COPPA regulations, their terms of service recommend students be 13 or older to sign up. However, we will ensure that all students complete the registration process in class, and will rely on the JIS Technology User Agreement and JIS Sharing and Privacy Policy to ensure that Khan Academy will be used safely and appropriately. This video illustrates wonderfully how Khan Academy promotes the type of “growth mindset” we are trying to instill in students, and we feel strongly that the students at this age level will benefit from accessing this powerful learning tool.
