The Backlot Expansion

As the final part of The Year Of A Million Dreams Celebration, the Backlot Tour at the newly named Disney's Hollywood Studios closed its doors for good in late 2006, and was to be repurposed for new experiences in the park.

Guests driving on I-4, planning a trip, or picking up a guide-map at the front desk, were immersed in the new offerings that were to be had at Disney's Hollywood Studios. After the monumental shift from 1999-2001 at the former MGM-Studios, the park went through several years of complacency before this new phase was realized. As part of the expansion, the Backlot Tour is repurposed into two distinct areas.

Live Action Studio

A contemporary urbanized hub for attractions, shows, and experiences based on popular Disney Live Action films. Moreover, this section will be home to Disney's Metropolitan Resort, a 470-room hotel with its own private entrance into Disney's Hollywood Studios, inspired by northeastern city accommodations.

TRON

An immersive indoor environment themed to the world of TRON. With Disney's TRON: Legacy set to debut in 2010, this area will set the stage well to revitalize the fanbase from the original film supercharging the franchise for years to come.

Even once guests arrive in their Disney Resort, an updated Top 7 Must-Sees at Walt Disney World will be playing in their rooms, inviting them to experience the new offerings on their trip.
