StreetSmart, a mobile-phone application, allows travelers to receive customized suggestions based on their current location and preferences. Upon downloading the application, travelers will be asked a series of questions to better understand their interests. People with similar responses to the survey will be grouped together as having similar interests, and reviews from people within the same group will have greater weight than reviews from people in different groups. After taking this survey, users will then be prompted to take another survey that questions them on activities in the nearby area to give suggestions on what the user might want to do at that instant. Travel locations will be propagated on StreetSmart via destination-type databases in addition to user-created locations while the reviews will be generated from the user's ratings. StreetSmart connects you with local street vendors, performances, restaurants, and sites you just can’t miss! StreetSmart includes a virtual journal where one can also upload photos and audio recordings of their trip. Travelers can view nearby geo-fenced danger zones to ensure their safety and avoid risky areas. StreetSmart is a home for travelers; a trustworthy community that ensures all types of people can make the most out of their unique trip.
The design studio allowed us to receive more feedback that we were lacking at the time due to our lack of a client going into it. Given the people who were viewing our Design Studio were people who were in our target demographic it allowed us to get good feedback that would help us significantly. Our main concerns going into the design studio concerned how users would use our features. Because of this, we in-depth described the usability of all our features. We then posed questions on what were the best and worst features to use and if there were any features people would be opposed to using and why they would. We wanted to make sure the app would actually be used and in this process, we were able to make good adjustments to many of the features of this project based on the feedback received.
A specific example of this was the changes made to the Frequently Asked Questions section. Many people said there would be a good chance they would not use this feature. Because of this, we improved this feature, adding the ability for users to pose their own questions in it and respond to others. This is one of the many improvements we were able to make as a result of the Design Studio.
