FIRST stands for "For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology," it is a global non-profit organization that runs a suite of robotics competitions for young people. FIRST aims to inspire students to pursue careers in STEM which consist of science, technology, engineering and mathematics all through hands-on, team based programs and competitions. Beyond this here is what Dean Kamen, the founder of FIRST stated "It's not about the robots. We are not using kids to build robots; we are using robots to build kids."
FLL goes from the ages of 4-12 years old and is separated by three divisions which are discover, explore and challenge.
FTC focuses on and teaches STEM skills, business principles and teamwork. Students apart of FTC go from grades 7-12.
FRC students design, build and program industrial-sized robots to compete with. FRC goes from 14-18 years old.
STEM career preperation- FIRST helps students prepare for the workforce by developing skills in programming, engineering and other technical skills.
Scholarship opportunities can be earned throughout students participation
Teamwork and collaboration- FIRST really emphasizes on learning to work cooperatively, communicate and resolve team conflicts.
Communty involvement- Students learn the importance of contributing to their community and become inspired to make a positive impact.
Personal growth- Participants learn and develop skills like cooperation, respect and leadership.
