Team 20505 - the Astrobots, is comprised of students ranging from grades 7-9 from Foshay Learning Center. We are an FTC team based in Los Angeles, CA. We are a team of innovative, energy-filled students who love to explore and make new discoveries! This season, we hope to decode new mysteries and make a change.
Founded in 2021 by mentor Darryl Newhouse - head of the Engineering Academy at Foshay Learning Center, Team 20505 quickly became a promising FIRST Tech Challenge (FTC) team which has shown passion in robotics. We have created a supportive environment that attracts new members in Middle School and High School and promotes FIRST robotics principles. Our team focuses on expanding students' engineering knowledge through hands-on experiences, inspiring innovation and personal growth. Beyond competition, we nurture future STEM leaders by providing a space for learning and skill development. Each year, Team 20505 aims to deepen technical expertise and broaden our impact in robotics and our community.
Team 20505 implemented a structured robotics education program for incoming 8th-grade students, focusing on comprehensive skill development in design, programming, and problem-solving leading to Engineering Academy pathway in high school. Experienced team members and mentors facilitated project-based learning, creating an immersive environment that cultivates technical proficiency and passion for robotics. Our approach integrates theoretical instruction with practical application, ensuring new members develop a robust foundation in FIRST Tech Challenge fundamentals while fostering a culture of collaborative learning and innovation.
