Digital Teaching Fellowship

The foundation of our success has been the ethos of facilitating and empowering trainees and other colleagues to take control and have autonomy. By encouraging everyone to explore their ideas and test every boundary has led to a diverse and rich experience. This opportunity has been grasped by many of our fellows who feel that their professional career has acquired more facets. Here are some of their stories.

Dr Rupali Patel - Dermatology ST6

I was a PGVLE digital fellow for West Midlands Dermatology. It was a new and exciting exciting experience to build our specialty page, running a weekly classroom with feedback links and gradually adding educational resources. The virtual classroom proved to be invaluable during the COVID-19 pandemic when F2F teaching was no longer possible. The virtual platform has also enabled access to teaching from expert speakers in Dermatology from other areas of the UK.

The role has further developed my expertise in medical education, particularly with regards to curriculum and lesson planning. I have enjoyed navigating the virtual sphere and learning about the associated benefits as well as the challenges when applied to a large trainee cohort. I have decided to further pursue this interest by completing a PGCert in Medical Education, a course that I am thoroughly enjoying! I now see myself as both a clinician and teacher, and will be looking to incorporate both roles into my future career.
