Structural Systems and Structural Analysis

This subsystem deals with designing and analysis of structural components of the aircraft which includes structural design of Wing, Fuselage, Empennage (Vertical and Horizontal Tail), Undercarriage (Landing Gear) and Engine Mounts. Detailed Analysis is done to check airworthiness/airframe loads and stress analysis of aircraft components. Lightweight structure and design is developed to ensure flexibility in both payload range and fuel amount allowing the vehicle for expanded mission capabilities.

Simulations are performed to check structural vibrations and aeroelasticity also. Self developed MATLAB code and qualitative analysis is used to evaluate each design.

NASA’s Design and Analysis for Rotorcraft (NDARC) tool used by team provides a bundled, physics-based tool to integrate other analyses provided by RotCFD, Xfoil, NPSS, and other custom built tools.
