Here at TeachingWithTristan, we have four key focuses:
To Equip individuals with the tools they need in order to thrive within their environments.
To Explore the dynamics of society through discussions and hands-on approaches.
To Enable individuals to discover their own interests and skills.
To Establish the belief that everyone can learn and does not need a formal education setting to do so.
To create a world where a love for learning and knowledge surpasses the walls of a classroom or educational institution in order to create individuals who will constantly seek knowledge and use it to transform the world around them.
TeachingWithTristan, a division of Schoolin Life, LLC was founded in 2021. Schoolin Life, LLC focuses on the holistic development of the entire family. TeachingWithTristan was founded as a way to address the issues that many families face in relation to issues of equity and access in the world of education. This division focuses specifically on the intellectual well-being of the family and seeks to stimulate the minds of individuals within the family in order to empower them to do great things with the knowledge they gain.
Schoolin Life, LLC was founded in 2020 under the belief that education is not (and should not) be confined to the walls of education institutions such as grade schools, colleges, and universities. In the midst of the COVID-19 Pandemic, educators all around the world found innovative and exciting ways to provide access to learners and to address the diverse learning needs that these learners possess. This proved that education is not something that can only take place inside the four walls of a classroom and that quality instruction has the ability to transcend both space and time. While this was proven to be true, the pandemic also highlighted (even more) the challenges that many individuals face within formal educational settings. Specifically challenges that stem from issues of equity and access.
Keeping this in mind, Schoolin Life, LLC developed TeachingWithTristan in order to increase access to quality education, instructional materials, and education-based services for all. More and more research showcases the advantage gap (also known as the "Achievement Gap") caused by factors such as race, socioeconomic status, and even sexual orientation. Research from Caldas, Berneir, & Marceau (2009) supports the notion that even if we remove some of the factors, the advantage gap would still be there due to the general nature of certain areas. This work and many other works show that it is not enough to be aware of the factors that contribute to a lack of knowledge, but that we must also work around those systems to provide individuals with what they need to flourish intellectually. TeachingWithTristan strives to work around these factors to ensure everyone has access to some form of quality education.
Ronald Edmonds, an American Educator and Pioneer of effective school research, once said, "Whether or not we will effectively teach the children is more a matter of politics than of social science...It seems to me, therefore, that what is left of this discussion is three declarative statements: (a) We can, whenever, and wherever we choose, successfully teach all children whose schooling is of interest to us. (b) We already know more than we need to do that; and (c) Whether or not we do it must finally depend on how we feel about the fact that we haven't so far."
Schoolin Life, LLC believes that every individual is capable of learning and that every individual deserves the opportunity to learn. Factors such as socio-economic status, environment, physical abilities, intellectual abilities, and other factors should not hinder learning for individuals. Aligning with the mindset of Ronald Edmonds, we believe that when we work to address the challenges that individuals face upfront, true knowledge can be constructed and genuine learning can occur. Through services such as the Alternative Learning Courses, Tutoring, and Resource Videos, Teaching With Tristan will ensure that individuals are able to bypass some of the most common barriers that often discourage individuals from either seeking knowledge or developing knowledge within a formal educational setting.
