I have been a member of the leadership and Framing your Success teams at both Fayetteville and Oak Hill High. This year marks my fifth year working with this type of work, and my second year on the Oak Hill High School team.
I have lead meetings, worked with small groups, and aided teacher lead staff development.
With each of my Problem Based Learning Projects, I try to involve a community service component. Recently my students have packed boxes to send to military service members following a study on mental health while reading Tim O'Brien's The Things They Carried.
My students have also packed shoe boxes for Operation Christmas Child, and wrapped Christmas presents for a local family in need.
This year, I am working as a member of the transition team to help students, staff, and community members through the merger process. As a team, we have held parent night events, visited schools, and worked with student council to help students from all schools feel at home at Oak Hill High School.
This year, I have worked with the math department and the 11th grade team at Oak Hill High School to help improve test scores. Students volunteer their lunch time each day to work on improving their scores. In these meetings on Mondays and Fridays, I use group work techniques and peer mentoring to help my students achieve their goals on the SAT. Students in these classes analyze the test, break in down, and then go through strategies for improvement.
