As an 11th grade English teacher, one of my largest focuses is college and career preparation. Students in English 11 tasked with working to improve their SAT scores through group work, project based learning, real world application, and self-reflection. Over the course of the year so far students have on average raised their scores 100 points.
Students also worked in groups to improve their scores through cooperative learning. Each class period competed with the next to raise their scores to the mastery mark.
In class, students completed group work assignments that focused on 3 self-selected skills that as a class they had mentioned struggling with on their 1st self-assessment.

Each day students complete bell ringers that are made up of previous SAT tests, during this activity we go over each question, while discussing processes and tips to help them address the different question types.
On their final self assessment, students looked at their growth on the tests and considered which of the 8 question types on the SAT they still wanted to focus on.
