I believe that education is the key to the future:
The 35th President of the United States, John F. Kennedy, once said, "Children are the world's most valuable resource, and it's best hope for the future." I believe this statement to ring true in the halls of our school buildings and in the sanctity of the classroom. Each and every child is unique and brimming with possibility. I believe that as teachers, we are often the only thing standing between our students and a lifetime of poverty. I view my role as a teacher as an opportunity to help provide to my students a safe, stable and caring environment that promotes meaningful learning, respect, and self-discovery. My goal is to help each of my students achieve their highest potential.
I believe the classroom should help foster student learning:
I believe that learning is an active, social process in which students are constantly participating. The classroom environment should be conductive to helping students of all abilities to achieve an equal learning opportunity. As an educator, I want my classroom to off all students a place where they can feel safe, secure, respected and well cared for. I believe that diversity is beautiful and should be embraced. Each child is different and therefore learns differently. to me learning difference are a part of what makes teaching such a rewarding and challenging profession; these difference are addressed in my classroom through a variety of teaching styles.
I believe that learning never ceases:
Learning is not simply an activity that takes place in the classroom; we are always learning and developing. As an educator, I work to help my students apply the knowledge they learning the classroom to every day life. I want my students to learn to collaborate on tasks and share their ideas, engaging and challenging each other to learn more. I believe that each child's unique experiences and outlook on life is beneficial to the group and adds learning opportunities for the students. Students should be able to leave the classroom with a new knowledge of the subject they are studying and an ability to apply the skills they have learned to real life situations.
I believe in "being the change I want to see in the world":
As a teacher, and as a mother, I believe that we all share a certain responsibility to make the world better than we left it. As educators, I believe that we have a rare and special opportunity to do just that. By creating a sense of community in my classroom, and respecting the needs of each student, I aspire to create an atmosphere in my classroom that teaches students how to be successful community members. Through the combination of problem based learning and service learning projects in my classroom, I work to instill in students a knowledge that they too are responsible for giving back to the community.
